OK, so I'm looking for a place to drill and tap (or find a plug) to sense oil pressure on the 1HZ. The stock oil pressure sensor location is spoken for (and I already have one Tee fitting on it for the turbo oil supply).

So, is there any location that any of you have used to add an additional oil pressure sensor? I'm looking at the oil galley, and it looks like there's a spot about 3/4" of an inch from the existing stock location that I could sort of drill and tap, but there's no obvious boss for it. If there were a threaded plug or something that had oil pressure in it, that would work too....

I put two tees together so I could run the stock sender and one for my isspro along with my turbo feed

Pretty tight clearance with a starter right there

True.

So I am thinking more about this, and I'm wondering if using two Tees, and building a bracket to support the outer end is a good idea....

Any pics of yours Foreal?

Dan

Are there oil galley plugs on the side of the block? If so, any of these could be used for a sender location.

You are only talking a pressure reading, not using it as a supply, so no reduction in pressure or volume using an oil galley hole.

On my Isuzu 4BD2, there are at least a 10 oil galley locations on the block.

I agree on the big "Octopus" hanging of the block.

Tap where the 1HZ-T / 1HD-T takes it's oil for the turbo and use your T for the oil sensor (and save having an exposed oil line run around the motor).

i just happened to be working this out for my own 1HZ-T build the other day,

in the first photo, there's a protrusion that only appears on post 1998 motors in case yours doesn't look like that

if you want to get rid of those water hoses doing a lap around the motor as well, i recommend you replace the cab heater pipe and water outlet with the 1HD-T versions, and add the 1HD-T turbo water pipe. if your running a CT26 you can use the 1HD-T water and oil pipes from the turbo for a perfect fit. i have all the part numbers if you like.

if you have a ct26, and your block doesn't have that extra bit shown in the first photo, you can have my oil intake pipe (15407-17011) + shipping if you can't get one easily. because of that protrusion, mine shown in the photos doesn't fit and i've had to order another one from the post 1998 1HD-FTE (15407-17020) which i hope will account for it.

I'm returning to this....

I am going to drill and tap the 1HZ block in that stock location on the right side.

Now the question is: what size do I drill and tap it?

Three options:
  1. 1/8" NPT (very common, easy to get plugs/adapters if I ever need)
  2. 1/8" BSPT (matches stock Toyota Oil pressure sender or switch--keeps it more Toyota-ey)
  3. M16 Banjo Bolt. (looks like M14 or M16 is the stock banjo bolt size--keeps it as close to "stock" as possible)
Thoughts? I'm leaning towards #2 or #3. Anyone (Damien--I'll bet you do) know the stock size of the banjo bolt?

Either one will connect to a #4 JIC hose to the turbo. Either a Banjo to JIC adapter, or a BSPT to JIC adapter. I will have to order parts for either of these options. I could drill, tap and install the other stuff tomorrow in about 15 minutes--but then I'd have one NPT port in the engine, which would be the only one--and thus weird.

Banjo bolt means a larger hole, no? More swarf.
Are you drilling this on an assembled engine, in car?
I'll be looking at doing the same soon, just not sure about drilling into the block on an operational engine

Mines fitted now so I don't know precisely, I had the machinist do it before he pressed the sleeves, but I posted some photos somewhere, must have been in my build thread, there I also explained how the hole was quite long. Are you going to use the factory oil pipe with banjo? Either way could just buy the banjo bolt, it's cheap. Let me find where I posted the info and I'll come back with a link

The bore length to get to the reservoir was 150mm, it was a nerve racking drill. We initially tapped the thread for the banjo and then drilled the bore to the same internal diameter of the oil pipe so I wouldn't create any pressure issues.

Dan, I can't remember, are you running a CT26? If so, then I vote for the banjo bolt and the 1HDT pipe.

Are you guys talking about a banjo bolt for the turbo oil supply that has a 1/8npt fitting in the top of it? Link?
