For some strange reason my CD player is now working again . Saw a Pioneer AVH-270 BT demo unit on sale for half price (CAN$174). Was very tempted, but it is missing the mic and USB ext cable.
Hi TurboPhil, I'm kind of with you on the OEM look. I thought I would give it a try with the radio in my 'new' LHD model 81. Here's the radio:
Through ToyoDIY (and some help here), I've identified this as an Matsushita (Panasonic) 86120-95J04 JDM radio and cassette deck, with a 86270-20050 CD player (it's marked on the front as a 'Toyota 8/12 Compact Disc Deck 5751). I've not yet taken it out but I've found photos of a unit on ebay that appears to show a round plug and thick cable between the radio/cassette deck and the CD deck. I imagine this is probably the best place to intercept the audio from the CD to add bluetooth. The radio does turn on and make noise but that's all the time I've had with the truck--which is undergoing repairs.
Here is the backside of one that I found on Ebay:
And this is...I think...what the connector looks like:
I was wondering whether in your research you found any databases that include circuit diagrams for these old radios. I've hunted high and low with no success. I also suspect there must have been some sort of standard for connecting two Panasonic units of this sort, but I've been unable to find that either. Just thought you might have run into something...
