Just added a Rhino Rack Backbone system with an 84” x 56” Pioneer Platform to my ‘04 100 Series. The overhang in the front is taking some getting used to, but I think once I add the expedition rails, Jerry cans, pelican box, shovel mount, yetis and RTT this next month it won’t look so weird to me.

Added a shovel mount, accessory bars and front and side expedition rails and the look is now a little more to my liking.

Last touch for the rack will be a RTT, then I can move on to suspension and armor!

Very nice. The front & side expedition rails look significantly better. How does the front overhang (area with with no backbone underneath it) handle with high speed driving? Any shake, bounce, noise ?

Would love to see front shot if you get a chance.

It looks good, and should give you a lot of utility when you need it.

Here is a view of a similar sized rack loaded (this is an older Outback Extreme SA). The front ends roughly at forward edge of sunroof.

On the roof is a Yakima RTT (3 person - overhang to rear), 2x Maxtrax, Zarges box (sleeping bags & folding chairs), shovel, 5 gal Wavian can and ARB awning. I do try to manage weight distribution in this heavy truck - burly wooden drawer system, ARB fridge, Slee sliders and underbody outweigh the roof load. And of course the "dynamic load" of the dog inside....

My friend Devin also shot a great front view (including rack & similar load out) from a year previous.

Enjoy your build.

If you haven’t seen a Rhino Rack close up... they are extremely stout and heavy .....the aluminum slats running front to back are very wide ...I can’t answer the question on his 100 but there is zero shake or bounce on my 80

The backbone I believe is a recent addition for the 100... looks great

I won a Rhino Rack Pioneer platform at HIH raffle last year. Wasn’t really in the market for a roof rack but pretty nice surprise! System seems very sturdy and well built. Only complaint is rattling. Seems to be slats rattling against side rails. Notice when closing doors and hitting bumps on the road. Currently only has hi-lift and shovel mount, otherwise just flat platform. Anyone else dealt with this? Any suggestions? Sorry for the hijack, maybe should’ve started a new thread.

My Dream 80 with the 4.7

Wish the RR still came in silver.

Thanks for sharing.

Howdy!

So far, zero rattle, shake, bounce or noise. Pretty solid up there too as I put my weight on it yesterday and there was no give.

I meant I put my weight on the overhang area and there was no give...

Thanks for responding with the extra photos and info.

For some reason adding the expedition rails gave it a more complete look. And somehow, as odd as this may sound, it looks more proportional from the front view (where I would’ve guessed the expedition railing only on the front could’ve created an unbalanced look).

Ah, too many words. Will keep it simple and say the finished product looks great!

Wanted to clarify after a little reconnaissance over the weekend. Turns out all of my noise was coming from the old hi-lift jack, not from the rack or the jack mount.

Here’s the latest update. Mounted an ARB Simpson III to the rack and had to relocate the shovel mount. Took some drilling and was not fun by any means, but was able to get it done all on my own. Last step will be a Jerry Can Holder and then I’m going to focus on rebuilding the damage done to my marriage...

I'm interested in the backbone but not sure it's more effective than the RLCP style legs? With no space in between the footpacks, it seems like it would be a PITA to remove RTT brackets (eg: james baroud)

@npicciandra I see that you have the front railing and a RTT. Would you mind taking some measurements of the front railing, specifically how far back it mounts on the platform. Trying to figure out if I can fit one with my Tepui RTT. Thanks in advance.

Thinking about getting this rack but for my LX470. Anyone have experience with this rack on the RCL legs vs backbone? Anyone try the backbone on their LX?
