The rear seat entertainment center is cumbersome and with limited functionality, thanks to the inability to connect a USB drive or stick that will read movies, or give full selection control to the rear passengers. I found the following solution, for under $50, which works perfectly.
- Micca Speck G2 media player on Amazon: LINK. Alternatively, you can get the MDN player LINK which is cheaper, comes with more cables and its own USB power supply
- a 5v 3.5mm USB barrel power supply (search amazon). Or you can carry an extension cable from the 110v outlet. Or buy the MDN player which comes with the USB power supply.
- Adhesive velcro tape.
These unit are very small and able to play multiple format video and audio, as well carry pictures. You can supply media via a USB thumbnail, USB drive, or SD card. Output is both HDMI and component (RCA) cable. They play up to 1080p, but if you set that output (device menu settings), it won't display on Lexus as it cannot handle more than NTSC or PAL (480i).
Kids now have over 50 movies to choose from, and 1000s of songs.
I simply velcro-attached the player to side of the driver seat, with the IR remote facing the rear seat. I also velcro attached the remote in the armrest, next to the Lexus remote (no rattling sound).
It is completely removable and good for road trips as you can easily connect this to a hotel TV.
