Tower of murder baby.
I bought a s***ty FJ40.

It wasn't very expensive.

It sat behind a barn for a long time.

Young Steven was sucking on baby wipes dipped in Lucky back when this was parked.

The mistake of an engine has been improved with the gradual addition of water over the past two decades, periodically frozen to make doubly sure.

It is to be replaced by a rather notorious 3b that lived under a tree and was traded for Trogdor ( or the Douchenozzle as it was then known), and spent the last several years having the grandmother driven out of it by a large man with a fondness for alarming amounts of boost and little respect for moderation.

it may or may not ever see the road again, but if I maintain a small degree of enthusiasm and get it together, it might be a half decent yard tractor.

Surprisingly, it has a saginaw conversion. Must've been a rarity in 1994.

Believe it or not, that is 1994 air in those tires.

It came with a decent stash of spare doors and h/t sides...this being the jewel in the crown.

Sweet! Looks good to go for the 21st. :hillbilly:

I like how it still has a hi-lift on the front bumper!

yeah... not sure that works any more.

Aside from the engine choice, it must've been a pretty nice truck when it was parked. No one seemed to know why, although having found a bottle of arthritis pills in the glove box, one can make a guess.

What's pissing me off at the moment is that it appears I did something clever with the aluminum side panels toshi dropped off here. this tub is a good candidate for getting stuff bolted over holes.

Mel probably hid the panels.

So does Jonathan have the 3b from the blue Sixty I dropped off, in his 40 now?

nah, he's got a 2h 5speed thing going on.

That blue 60 is still in the bushes where you left it.

Mel Loooooves the 40. I could tell by the tears of joy as we pried it off the trailer.

I may have chucked the panels...although the blackberries are taking over that corner. Steves gonna need an axe to get his doors back.

What year is it. What motor did it have in it? Is that the original top?
I am in the market for hardtop sides if they are better than mine.

Get it running for Cruiser Days, you might just win 'Worst in Show', there are usually a few who covet that award each year. As long as it goes through the gate on it's own power, it qualifies....good news, it's downhill through the gate!

Congrats, any Cruiser at Home is a good thing. Those doors are a nice find for sure.

Ferry tickets would damn near double my "investment"....

So probably not...it is handsome tho eh?

Worst in show eh... I wonder if I could drag a volvo powered cruiser i saw across the pond for that.

For the 47th time young man, we demand pictures.

I vote make the thing road worthy. Give it a pressure wash (being careful not to punch holes through it ), clear coat the whole truck to seal in the existing color scheme, aluminum side panels, 3B, and you're good to go. :hillbilly:

I'm almost jealous...would love to get my hands on an ultra cheap 40 someday. Granted I don't have the time (or $$) to rebuild one right now.

You gotta lose those flares, otherwise it looks great...bit of a rustic patina

I'd wondered how long it would be before you found a deal you couldn't resist.

Doesn't look that bad, all things considered.

Cruiser pilot beat me to it, "patina'd" just perfectly! Kinda reminds me of an '81 BJ42 I bought in Deep Cove, North Van years ago... most of the tub had disappeared, and you had to step on the rear axle housing to get into the front seat. That little 3B just purred though!
How is it you just always seem to find the gems...???
PS: send my sympathies to Mel...lol

Yeah, there's the odd air vent...

Frame seems ok. Not perfect, but not too crusty.

I had Jonathan on the look out for me. I swear that dude knows every old fart on the island....

I'm sure M & H have done their share of comiserating over the years...:bang:

I'm going to do some stuff to it tomorrow. I was hoping I could leave the front clip on, but I think it might have to come off in order to get the 350 out without removing the headers. They're on with freakin allen bolts...and just a wee bit rusty. We'll see. It'd be nice to leave the fenders on there.

Supposedly, it was a brand new crate engine in 93, then got parked in 94. I'll keep the PS pump, on the off chance it still works , but other than that, meh. Dude from black flag wants it for the headers and tranny/adapter. So it'll be nice to have it gone all as a lump.

Headers look like they might have been designed for a cruiser conversion, they wrap up and over the steering shaft. Maybe from Downey or something. Not that I give a particular rat's ass.

Jon's finders fee (claim) was the hardtop, so it'll be getting the sheet o' plywood strapped to roll cage treatment....:hillbilly:

:hmm::flush:

Shes a keeper, nice little rig...

Couple guys looked at my Taco few weeks back (Taco long gone...) they have a buddy with a rust free red fj40 with blown engine sitting in a garage, guy roofed a shed and the lady traded him...

Gonna factory soft top it., or just a blue tarp with some plastic duc taped inside, thinking the later is more your style
