Hello all! Wondering if I could get some minds on this"
Accelerating in my KJJW78, I get good shifts on 1--2, but it almost seems like it stays in 2nd. I turn O/D on, but I dont see the rpms decrease and the O/D light does not illuminate. I was thinking perhaps I need to replace my O/D solenoids? Megazip seems to be all out of them however. Thoughts?

You should be getting another shift, 2-3, before overdrive will kick in (basically 4th gear and torque converter lockup). What happens when you manually shift through the gears when accelerating? Definitely could be solenoids, the O/D solenoid was bad on my first Prado about 10 years ago, I replaced all three solenoids with a kit I got on eBay. The A343f and A340e use the same solenoids IIRC.

unfortunately I have an automatic and can’t shift past second. I get up to 100 km and I don’t see the o/d kick on and I’m at about 3x rpm’s. Do you have another source for the solenoid? Mega zip is out. Thanks for the help dude!

You should still be able to manually shift the automatic through the gears: turn the O/D switch off, manually perform the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift (2-D), and then turning O/D back on will engage 4th (overdrive) above about 70-80km/h if I remember correctly. If you don't get noticeable shifts on these gear changes then it is likely one of your solenoids is bad. Also, if I am not mistaken the torque converter should lock up in 3rd gear with O/D off, but it has been about 9 years since I've had an A343f equipped Prado.

Replacing the solenoids is not difficult, and as I recall they're not terribly expensive parts either. It is a good opportunity to refresh your transmission fluid too.
