I have a new clutch and compressor, but the clutch/coil is now burning up after a few minutes of driving with the AC on. Voltage appears to be OK at 14.5.

Wire on the first new clutch was stripped bare after rubbing against the pulley, so we thought it was a short that caused the problem, but the same behavior occured with the next clutch.

Assuming the compressor is OK, what else am I missing?

Thanx

Are the belts too tight or too loose? That might throw the bearings out but its all connectd, I think?> Correct me if I am wrong? Maybe you have a faulty Clutch unti or compressor unit

What year? What engine? What country?

US, 94, R134.

I sold him the first clutch and compressor.

Since it ate a second clutch I suspect the compressor. If the chewed up wire did cause the first clutch to have a problem, that clutch may have possibly damaged the compressor when it failed.

Its a 97 LX, not '94, in mid-Michigan.

I'm pretty sure the belts and installation are OK. The shop was recommended from multiple sources.

Crap -- I hope we didn't put in the wrong compressor (94 vs 97)?

Same compressor 94-97 same clutch too.

Sorry to confuse, I was thinking of a different vehicle.

Whew!

Update:
The shop is pretty confident the compressor is OK, so they are going to check the + and - pressure to make sure things are good. And at this point, there is no indication of blockage in the system.

Thanks Dan

Do those use shims in between the compressor and clutch? Cant remember, know on some there is a tolerance fot the compressor/clutch...

I just experienced something similar. :crybaby:

I hope your luck is better than mine cause I won the prize behind door #2.

Fawking stealerships. :flipoff2:
