Hey guys, I've got a '97 FZJ80 with 216,000 miles on it and the other day my ABS light came on but I had seen that a few times since I've owned it and it always cleared. Over the weekend, my buddy and I were under the hood and we could hear something running even though the truck was off. We found that the ABS Actuator Pump was running and when we touched it, it was hot. We ended up pulling the fuse for it. I'm figuring that I have a bad relay that sticking and is stuck on but does anyone know where that relay is? Thanks for any help!

This is a can of worms, but here you go (A6/A7, right side center)
[this is from my '95 FSM, YMMV]:

These are all from the ABS brake system section of the FSM:

I suggest you eat a big breakfast and lay in a good supply of ice and beer...

I'm still living with the fuse pulled. I certainly don't NEED the ABS but ideally, I would like it to work and have the light off. It's still my understandingthat there are two relays involved that could be sticking and keeping it on. I just haven't devoted any time in researching it.

I had this happen two weeks ago.: ABS light on, pump still running after engine off, pulled fuse.
I disconnected the ABS relay and ran through the diagnostic steps thatMalleus posted above. Everything checked out OK, so I put it back together expecting to dig deeper into a source for the problem, however everything seems to work correctly now.
I suspect that cleaning and tightening the connections did the trick for me.

2023 bump for an old thread.

This happened to me yesterday - ABS engaged a mintue or so before I got home. I noticed ABS light was on, and the pump was still running after shutting the engine off, but not hot yet. 1997 LX with 235k miles and change.

I didn't think to pull the fuse, instead I looked for what was probably power to the unit and disconnected the black clip on the fender side of the unit. Left it unplugged for a second, when I reconnected it the pump remained off. Started the engine, no light or continued issue after turning if off again.

I will update this post if the issue returns after engaging ABS again.

Edit: Got onto a snowy gravel road and did a few ABS checks, the light did not come back and the pump is shutting off as intended. Maybe all mine needed was a connector re-seating.

Am I correct in understanding that this is better for rigs with larger tires? I'm still close to stock with 265/75/16's

it definitely helps w/ larger tires, but i don't see how it could hurt w/ stock tires ether.
