I want to do a SOA on my 60. My buddy is parting out his 62 and I can get his axles from him. As I have the axles out of the truck, I plan on installing lockers, re-gearing and of course a rebuild. I plan on running 35s when it is all said and done.

In your opinion, which axle will be better for what I want to accomplish. What are the main differences? Isn't a 60 axle 30 spline and a 62 axle 27 spline? I know I can do the SOA with my current axles, but I wanted to keep the "down" time to a minimal which I can do if I have the 62 axles sitting there ready to go.

All Land Cruiser axles (in the states) are 30 splined at the diff side and 27 spline at the birfield. 60 and 62 are the exact same axle... only diff is the gearing as 62's had 4:11's

62 front axle has lil extra armor(gussets)

does any1 know if the 60/62 frame (width) is the same?

It is, and the axle housing is the exact same, except the 62 housing has an extra gusset on the bottom of the long side of the housing.

Also, the relationship of the pinion is a few degrees didfferent relative to the perches. This is also desirable if you don't plan to do a cut and turn. If it were me, I would use the 62 housing and the 62 gears, so go get your friend's parts before someone scoops them out from under you.

Thanks Dave.....summed that one up pretty quick ;p. I'm going to pick up these 62 axles...clean em, regear em and lock em

The truck is sitting in my driveway while it is being parted out.......easy access for me :D

Ill take the front housing if you dont!:p

If your going for a low SOA you may want to grab the 62 springs and put in an add a leaf also.

Dave

I'll be getting the 62 springs as well. How much lift is that going to give me if I add a leaf? I don't want to be too high up there. I mainly want more clearance, flex and 35s without rubbing

IIRC, I think its in the neighborhood of 7-7.5 in of lift.
IT WILL take some getting used to when you wheel it.
However, more often than not, youll keep all 4s on the ground. FYI, I get some rub in the front fender with 35's...
Not much, but there is some.
