For those of us considering the 350 swaps and trying to maintain our rigs with automatic transmissions...
+/-: A440F v. 700R4/4L60E
Is it better to just stick with the Toyota transmission for daily driving with some off roading thrown in? Lots of heresay out there regarding both paths, and would like to get some real advice!
Thanks!

Unless you have dumped a pile of money into your A440F like I have I would think either of the transmissions you mentioned would be a no-brainer with a 350 swap. Cheaper, more support, easier swap.

4l60e will probably require some sort of advanced adapters adapter kit unless you are going to use a chevy tcase as well. you'll most likely need to put a new output shaft into a 4l60e and have a reluctor ring pressed onto it. the AA housing/adapter will have a hole drilled into it for a speed sensor. speed sensor helps dictate shift points for the trans IIRC and is necessary. GM speed sensors are over 100 bucks.

personally, if i did the swap again i would have just used a 700r4.. pretty much the same thing without all of the computer fancy parts.

Either of the 3 trannies mentioned will require an adapter. The A440F is as good a tranny as any 700R4 or 4L60E also. The 700R4 can easily be made full hydraulic with no electrical connection necessary. The 4l60E is almost identical to the 700R4 even using the same adapter, but does require electronics to run correctly. If it were me I would use the engine of choice and the auto that comes with it. IE LS1 or LT1 with the 4L60E. It makes a simple install and if placed correctly requires no driveline mods.
