Does any one have a suggestion for a reputable transmission shop that can rebuild my a440f in the Houston area?

You’re probably better off finding a low mileage takeout from an H55 conversion.

I know @cruisermatt just sold one that had almost no miles as it was recently rebuilt. Saw another shop in Arkansas that has/had one for sale.

I’d find the shops that do the conversions and hit them up. I need a new transmission as well, will eventually go 5 speed manual but am going to put a known working A440 back in for the time being.

What’s up with your transmission?

Sunday both me and my son took it out for a drive and on the way back home it wouldn't change into the second or third gear. we limped home and then it wouldn't go in reverse. I really want to stay with a auto but trying to find someone who can do the rebuild work just anywhere in Texas is proving to be a chore. An extreme transmission is a thought but they are 20 plus weeks in lead time.

You should drop the pan and filter and see what you’re dealing with. Lots of folks have had luck resurrecting these trannys.

When was the last time you drained and filled?
Is your level spot on?

Mine had clear evidence of clutch disk failure due to previous owner neglect and it’ll still drive, I just can’t trust it beyond moving it around my property.

I have one sitting on my garage floor. Only has about 200 miles since I bought it from Valley Hybrids 2 years ago. My 3fe let go and I’m in the middle of an LS swap. Happy to work something out if it gets you back on the road

that for sure is something I would consider to do. I would just need to figure out what the freight would be from Missouri and what you would want for it let me know when we could perhaps discuss this. thanks,
jon

Sure thing. Shoot me a PM when you have time and we can work it out

I had my A440f rebuilt by National Transmission on Griggs. They did a good job and it ran well, but only put about 30k on it before I got the ls swap. I had a bmw transmission rebuilt there too and it held up well.

Hi I would be really interested if anyone knows of Auto Transmission parts suppliers, as I am doing a rebuild on my A440F box and am struggling to find parts I need with out having to purchase full kits of which I have had to do, to purchase most that I need. See attached photos of what I am currently looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Im just a retired guy looking to do it myself my hobby is mechanics.

Thankyou
