Hi ,
I'm an Italian BJ42 owner. (My land Cruiser is a LV in LX trim (power steering, disc brakes, full floating rear axle and so on..)
Due to my location, I have to cross some bush and hard paths everyday, and dont' like to have lot fo damages on the paint.
So, remembering an old picture of an FJ 28 with madeira wood side panels , I did my own "woody" BJ.
Due the "basic" tools I have (I need also to work on "open air", in worst conditions of the last week) I consider this as prototype version: I plan to make it again with a good boat wood on next summer.
I hope you will agree it.

Stay in contact.
Junio.

I like to make the same on the windows, too. :)

Note: the panels are bolted with rubber spacers to avoid rust, moisture and vibrations. regarding the last aspect, an unespected comeback is less noise from the hardtop after mounting the wood panels (maybe it joint some -sensible-points of the body, cutting the tipical BJ vibrations when the engine is running)

What is it with you Italians and wood cars?

I'm just jealous... you've got a BJ42... Regarding the steering box... is that stock, factory steering?

No it's after market.
detecting the VIN plate, I discivered my BJ LV was born with ventilated disc brakes, five speeds gear and full floating rear axle but the steering power unit is placed outside the body, I think by the first of the two previous owners.

Something strange about the 3B engine: also considering the open exhaust, my BJ is a little too powerful.
Despite the longer final ratio due to the bigger tyres, it's really easy to make long slidings also on dry roads while you drive in third gear.
Also the over 140 kmh of max speed tested with GPS (and my wife's Audi) is too high for a standard BJ 3400cc diesel with 98HP...

Thanks for your warm welcome, folks !

I will post it on the proper wood thread, then will post asap the windows job ,too.

Bye
