Matt and I took our rigs through the popular Butler Wash and Cottonwood wash three weeks ago. We left after work on Thur and he and brother returned home on Sun while Jessica and I returned home on Mon.

After topping off at Bluff, sometime around 12:30 am, we found a nice camp spot on Butler Wash road. After some much needed coffee and breakfast Friday morning, we hiked to some ruins but I got us lost and didn't find the mondo ruin that I really wanted to check out. We were only off by, oh, something like half a mile! The hike was still quite nice with some serious undercuts that are breathtaking.

After hiking the ruins, we headed north on the Butler wash road to hwy 95. Rather than heading north on Butler wash road, we took a circuitous route to hwy 95 which was way more scenic with some technical challenges along the way. Cottonwood wash road has lots of camping venues along the cottonwood creek and lots of campers were everywhere. It wasn't until the second time we crossed the creek that the big, giant RVs and domestic trucks just couldn't make it across. Perfect, we found a sweet spot for camping Fri night, next to the creek. Camping next to a creek is foreign to me and it was great. Matt and his brother cooked us up some serious dinner that night and I gotta go camping with those two more often is all I gotta say.

Sat morning we made our way north on Cottonwood wash through Dark Canyon and beef basin. We saw the Farmhouse ruin along the way and kept going toward Canyonland park. As you approach the park, you get to go through Bobby's hole, which gets more and more eroded as each wet season goes by. The approach to the park is simply breathtaking from this vantage point. Chesler park is in the distance and the way the setting sun lights up the rock formation is simply epic. That night we camped somewhere;) with some serious scenery.

Sun morning, after another mean breakfast, we headed out to the Confluence overlook and hung out there for a while. Looking at the two rivers coming together down below, about 1000', is awe inspiring. It felt like we were at the Grand Canyon. Finally, we headed out of the park via Elephant Hill and aimed for the start of Lockhart Basin trail. At this point, we said goodbye to Matt+bro while we headed north to Moab where we met up with some friends from Chicago. We'll return and the Lockhart Basin trail another time

This was Jessica's first time in Moab. We grabbed a nice dinner at Pasta J's then headed up to the Lasalle loop road where my friends were staying at a cabin. More tales were swapped over a blazing campfire before we all went to bed.
