Putting this 1971 FJ40 back together again is like a complex jigsaw puzzle navigating the discontinued parts, wildly different pricing, and of course when finally finding what I think is the right part the headache of ensuring it is in fact compatible. It’s enough to make my head explode. But, I am thrilled my fuel tank finally arrived and now my guy's redoing the electrical stuff and hopefully gets this thing on the road again before too long.

The things I need help with: I’m missing the passenger bench and have been struggling to find a reasonably-priced mate to this driver’s seat (pic below), and considering getting buckets instead. Should I keep holding out, or sell the driver’s seat and put buckets in?

I need a drivers’ side bracket/mount for my tail light. Cruiser Corps isn’t responsive, but they have it on their site listed as “temporarily out of stock.” I already have new lights and the passenger side bracket is fine, but hoping to find the drivers/LH side. Would something cheap like this possibly work? Mounting Bracket for 4" Round Trailer Lights - Steel - Black Powder Coat - https://www.superbrightleds.com/mounting-bracket-for-4-round-trailer-lights-steel-black-powder-coat?utm_campaign=Child++Organic+Shopping&utm_source=Vehicle+Lighting+>+Truck+%26+Trailer+Accessories&utm_medium=BK45BB&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgtX5iq61hgMV3DIIBR3mUgjPEAQYASABEgIAXfD_BwE

It’s mostly hidden under the bumper, but even if it works maybe it’ll be noticeably different from the other?

Is there any comprehensive source for part numbers specific to models, in general? I’ve been piecing together what I can from all over the place with minimal success. For example, I can’t find the number for the back, RH side window I need to replace. It’s the long rectangle (not split) that’s 34 in. x 15.5 in. It would appear identical (but flipped) to the LH side, but perhaps they’re different? This is making it a challenge to source second hand.

I have the wrong turn signal lights on my fenders. Anyone have luck with Legion Part Store? They’re very inexpensive but maybe they look/feel cheap too?FJ40 Series Front Signal Light Set - Legion Part Store - https://legionpartstore.com/product/fj40-series-front-signal-light-set/

Perhaps these are a step up (and about the same price)? Front Corner Light Lamp For Toyota Land Cruiser 40 BJ40 BJ45 FJ40 FJ45 1974-1984 | eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/403344749881?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A18xE1y-AoTk6--Z0ln_txXQ40&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=403344749881&targetid=1644837435243&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9004560&poi=&campaignid=20125739985&mkgroupid=149128855676&rlsatarget=aud-1314496317827:pla-1644837435243&abcId=9312975&merchantid=101500048&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_QDh_1GsmAX8xVlaHV4HTL3AHVv&gclid=CjwKCAjwx-CyBhAqEiwAeOcTdVSfoLl-zM4ExIsm29vZtnfSez2Xtj9GhCpnXXz_Pl51pgyNNWRZ4RoCpDsQAvD_BwE

I’m also tempted to get a length of their weather-stripping as they have 8 meters for ~$50. Toyota Land Cruiser Fj 40 / Fj Series Weather Door Rubber 8 Mts - Legion Part Store - https://legionpartstore.com/product/fits-toyota-land-cruiser-fj-40-fj-series-weather-door-rubber-8-mts/

I need to redo all my weather stripping, but can’t afford to buy them individually from CCOT, etc. which would run over $1k when all done.

What are some preferred aftermarket/generic seatbelt options? I’m giving up on finding the metal “Toyota” originals as the few i’ve found have been rusted out and/or silly expensive.

And I need the side mirrors/arms that mount to the door hinges. (I have the (empty) bracket they attach to.)

Lastly, should I be removing/treating the surface rust on and around these parts before I put on any of these new accessories, or can I address that stuff piecemeal later on?

Can’t thank you guys enough for any tips, you’re an invaluable resource and I so appreciate it!! Cheers,

Jason :)

Just my opinion. That seat is in a lot better shape than mine. I'm not a purest. You could go to a junk yard and get some nice seats for now. Save or sell your seat. Cutting out rust is a solution, anything else is just lipstick on a pig.

There are lots of folks listing stuff, doesn't mean they will ship anytime soon.

Spend your money on things like brakes that you actually need to drive safely.

thanks, Charlie! i agree with everything you wrote. luckily the previous owner redid the brakes, and so i'm hoping it's safe to drive sooner than later. unfortunately i also need things like the lights/seatbelts/mirrors to pass inspection so i'm hoping someone in a similar boat can point me in the right directions. thanks again! :)

The turn signals you have a link for are for the new 75 and up FJ40.

I might be able to assist with a couple of items on your list. I bought a couple of period correct Toyota front directional signals a year or so ago from Cruiser Outfitters for about $50.00 ea. The ones you showed are not. They may also have the tail light bracket. They're a great resource of parts and information, and good service. Cool Cruisers and probably others sell that light mount also. You need to find the ID number of your truck on the right front outside frame rail and the ID tag on your driver's side a-pillar. The year and month of production can be important when trying to obtain replacement parts. If you need any clarification on my poor quality pic let me know. Oh, and what engine and transmission are in there. Something doesn't look right. Good luck

ok thanks for that, Timmy! i think i need the 62711-90300 (RH) which means it's not interchangeable with the LH side...problem is they're discontinued and it's hard to tell what's what as far as used stuff online.

I sent you a PM on the LH tailight bracket, I have a extra new one

I have a 1971 passenger bench seat. It’s in excellent condition. It has a factory seat belt.

another thing I'm curious about is the rear hatch handle/mechanism. (mine's missing.) i have a local guy offering one that might work for $75, but i'm not sure it'll work. the first two pics are what i'm working with (outside and inside) and then two pics of his piece off an old roof he took apart. i'll need the inside handle too, though, right? thanks for any tips! you guys are the best :)
