Recently got a good deal on an AXT kit for my HZJ73. It came off a wrecked truck so I'll be going through and rebuilding the turbo.

I've been searching the net looking for A pillar pods and haven't located any. Somebody here might have a reference I'm hoping.

Also, I'd take recommendations on pyrometer and boost gauges. I'm looking for a black face so that it looks similar to the stock gauges. Not after anything "tuner" looking.

Cheers,

John

Autron here in Australia make a 2 gauge pillar pod.

Pretty ugly though, has a square edge that sticks out over the edge of the pillar.

On their website...

Go to the Products/Autron Instruments-Ausgauge/Custom Pillar Pod page, it is listed for the 78 series.

I'll see if I can find some time to take a photo to show you what I mean about the square edge sticking out unnecessarily, would look a lot better without it.

I think from memory it is symetrical, so should be able to flip it over from RHD side to use on LHD side if needed.

I only have a EGT/pyrometer in it at the moment, and the second space is blank. I use the standard/simple white on black VDO pyro. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have something more tuner style, maybe with a preset temp level that would set off a flashing or audible alarm when it hits the preset temp, just so you don't have to keep an eye on it so much.

Here is a photo of it on a suppliers website, you can see the square edge on each pod, which I wish was rounded off like the other side, it would look a lot better...

Probably not what you had in mind but here is the configuration in my LJ78. The boost gauge is located seperately near the forward portion of the transmission tunnel. .....1978HJ45

Doesn't look so bad, If you got pics, I'd be keen to see them.

Like the ease of seeing the guages. The side of my dash is where I have my locker switches. I was considering building my own pods as well, one for each side of the Instrument cluster where you've mounted the pyro.

Thanks Norm, You got it as that's the look I'm going for. Simillar to what I had in the 60 but those were Isspro high vis. The ones you show kind of look like aircraft guages, now all I would need is an airspeed indicator, which would be cool!

Most of my diesel Land Cruisers don't have enough forward momentum to make an airspeed indicator work.:):)...1978HJ45

Thanks Simon,

I see what you mean. Might have to go down to the local spped shop and try a few models.

hmmmm

why don't you do a triple gauge set up?
Boost EGT and Oil Pressure?
Put it in the din pocket below or above your stereo.
Crushers sells some I believe...
I made a gauge install thread and there have been some good choices....

Thanks,

My UHF is going in the DIN hole so it's not an option for me. I'm considering building two pods out of plexiglass that follow the contours of the dash and mount with double sided tape. I'd put a pod on either side of the cluster.

Paint the pods either grey or black.

I'll post pics on this thread

Thanks for the Link, I really like the dodge pod in the 81. I'm going to go to the local speed shop and see if I can find something that will work in that location. May be hard to read the guages from a higher seating position than in the 80 series but worth trying!
