My garage / shop is full of metal cabinets, rolling carts, and toolboxes. And I've ran out of space a long time ago so have stuff piled everywhere. I'm sure that's not the case with you (?) but I'm a minor tool addict so nothing much I can do about that, just live with it... I tried hanging things from cabinets walls etc with wires and bent bars but a pain and not working that well nor adjustable.

Well, the other day I was (of course) perusing Amazon and ran across magnetic metal hooks. Well, we all know about those, except that I did not know that those come in well over 100 lbs pull ratings. I got some "130 lbs" ones to try and found that they are very hard to move when stuck on a metal file cabinet. I can easily hang fairly heavy things from them, like big drills etc, and they don't move one bit. In fact, I'm more wondering about the flimsyish screwed-in hooks bending than the magnets coming loose or moving down. I even got some 170 lbs ones coming in to try as well. Not dirt cheap, about $2.50 each, but I'll gladly pay that not to have to move piles of stuff to get to that tool buried in that drawer. And super handy for longish things like levels and rulers that don't seem to fit anywhere. A good way to use otherwise unused "storage surfaces", methinks.

Now, I can't help but look at all those metal surfaces everywhere and thinking about all the frequently-used tools I could hang from them...

Maybe it just me but I hate Magnetic hangers,
WHY
1 like you noted they are stuck almost forever
The other problem is that when you hang steel tools on them, well they become magnetized.
Little tools stick to them, metal shavings stick to them, and when you have that long screw driver in a tight frame opening, well its goin to the metal chassis not the screw your aming at.

But thats just me

Good point! Would not matter for much of what I have in mind to hang in any case but I can see that for some items. So, out of curiosity, I went out and hung a steel (not stainless) wrench from one of the hooks. There was a small bit of magnetic pull on the hook itself but not much compared to the magnetic base. And afterwards the wrench did not appear magnetized at all. I surmise this is because the hook extends a fair bit out and the wrench was not directly exposed to the magnet. I would be more concerned about this with hangers where the magnet is exposed and is what the tools adhere to, but not the case with these.

If you go back to 3rd grade science you might remember rubbing a screwdriver blade on a magnet. after a short period of time the screw driver was a magnet.
(i'm 75 they let us do that back then)
So each time you take your tool on and off the hook the magnetism increases.
I big pipe wrench might not be a problem. but when drop it one time and you see all these little black bits hanging on you'll remember this thread.
:)

TBH, I'm not about to lose sleep over magnetizing my drill or my aluminum levels for ones, but to each their own, of course. :)

In any case, you're happy, I'm happy, it's all good!
