So, I keep saying I'm workin' on my 60...getting it back into good running condition...and fixing up and finishing all the little querks (no, the lockers still ain't frickin' wired--but I do have all the wiring and I thought I had a good harness, but that's another story. Anyway, very, very soon on the lockers....) So there's a guy in my local Cruiser club that's rebuilt a few carbs for a few guys around the state and they can't say anything but good about him. (For those of you how know that one guy that was rebuilding carbs here in Utah--no, it's not him...) Anyway, so I took my carby off and ran it over to this guy and he asked me what kinda setup I was running... Was it all stock? De-smog? Headers? Nope. Yep. Yep. He has a 60 and it's a similar setup so he set the jets and such like he runs on his. Took him a few days and voila! got me a rebuilt carb. Carb looks super good BTW.

So anyway, to get to the real point: While the carb was off getting rebuilt, I figured I would go ahead and finally start finishing up the snorkel install by modifying my stock air-cleaner assembly so I hook the snorkel up (Hey, it's only been a year and a half since the snorkel install... ). So anyway, some good friends of mine have a nice plasma cutter so I went over to their shop and had one of them cut out the area around the intake arm. We cut out the section on the arm where the hot-air induction area is (on the underneath) and removed the diaphram that sits up top. Cut off all the hose clamp things and filled in all the holes they left behind and capped the top and bottom where the cuts were made. And also formed some 22 gauge sheet metal into place where the arm was cut out. Looks pretty sweet if you ask me. My friends actually have some sweet sheet metal shaping tools used for body work (they are also restoring an old Belair) that we used to shape the sheet metal to form with the rest of the cleaner.

Next, after a few test placements of how the arm should go on the other side, it was decided that if the arm was just rotated around the outside, it would line up almost perfect to where the snorkel air hose ended. Tacked it on and checked it out--looked good. Welded it up, cleaned the crap out of it, and primed and painted it.

It may not be absolutely perfect, but I like it a LOT. Here's some pics of the finished product sittin' in the engine bay.

Just need to find about a foot of hose to fit on between the snorkel hose and the intake arm... Any ideas are welcome (and no, i won't use dryer hose...i already removed that crap from where the P.O. had used it... )

Last one. BTW, anybody got the bracket that bolts the backside of the air cleaner down to the valve cover? Mine's missing and I'd like to find one to hold the thing in place better.

Man that truck is awesome. Do your friends have all the fabbing skills? I wish I had a shop with a welding machine, all I've got are a few sockets and a torque wrench.

Snowboard much? I noticed the nice line sticker.

fab up a new battery hold down.........I need my water ski rope back :flipoff2:

looking good :)

man how many snowboards/skateboarders we got on here?

Hey, run over to an exhaust shop and get a short piece of exhaust pipe to connect the two pieces there. You can use rubber or silicone hose and hose clamps to hold it to the snorkel, since you can't really weld plastic to metal...

Thanks for all the suggestions on the hose...I'll check 'em out. I'm sure I'll find something.

Yup, I try to board as much as I can. I'm more into skateboarding than snowboarding though...funny though cause I'm from Utah--where we have the greatest snow on earth  :flipoff2: .

Oh ya, and disregard that bungee that's holdin' down the battery... :o . That's a temp fix while I try to find one of those top pieces that goes with the damn battery so that my nice, new stainless tray hold down will fit it. Stupid damn puny redtops...

Nice job theferg.

Yeah, it's a hijack.

Iv'e got the skateboard in the back of the 60 at all times. I have gun racks mounted on both rear side windows. They make good skateboard holders. Just use a strap so they don't pop out when you hit big bumps.

I am always so temped to use the top of the ARB for a rail. A little launch would be perfect. But that would be balls. Good way to damage your truck.

I bet I would have the same problem if I had a bullbar up front... On that same note, tailgates on most trucks (and SUVs that have 'em) make good grinds and slides... ;) And so do front fenders on old caddies and other big boxy hoopties... Not that I would know... ;) ;p :flipoff2:

I'm buildin' a trail trailer out of the bed of a pickup. I'm toying with the idea of having it double as a skate trailer... Grind/rail the sides and tailgate. Carry a small launch around in it... :D

Offroad/skate trailer. Now that would kicks A$$. I know the birdhouse team used to travel around in their van with boxes and grind rails built on it. There was a huge box and grin bar on the roof. It took a big launch to get up there. Jeremy Klein and Heath Kirchart ruled it.

I always thought it would be cool to fab a grind rail that would attach to the reciever hitch. You could attach it in any parking lot and be set. It would have to stick ou kinda far, but...

Cheers

powell had a freakin fold out half pipe in the back of there s***. that must have been awesome to pull and skate when ever they wanted. we had one of those ramp tech mini plastic lauchers that we skated all the time. we could clear the front of my buddies POS chevy.. goood times... some of the best..
