Hi everyone,

I am not a mechanical guy like most of you, so please forgive my question(s) based on this forum (https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/air-lift-1000-install.487915/)

I remove the shock (got that) and then it says to remove the "Sway Bar Nut/Bolt". I see the sway bar connected in several different places. Which bolt am I removing exactly?

Also, I don't know much about that coil. So if I remove the sway bar nut/bolt and place jack stands under the trailer hitch, the axle drops enough that the coils just come out?

From here I can see how I can remove the bump stopper, drill a larger hole for the airlines, and put everything back in place. But those two steps/items are holding me up.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Just did this on our 2000 yesterday.

Disconnect the sway bar where the bar connects to the link going to the frame. It's right there next to the lower shock bolt.

I put the jack stands right in front of the lower control arm frame bracket. You should be able to get the truck a little higher using that location. Once you disconnect the lower shocks and the sway bar, you will have plenty of axle drop. You still might have to use the jack on the opposite from where you are working to get just a little more drop if needed.

Also, I opened the hole in the spring perch up to 1 1/8". Highly recommend doing it. A little bigger than that even wouldn't hurt!

Have fun!

I used a 1 1/4" hole saw on mine. I lined it up so the front edge of the hole cuts out most of the original hole which puts it right about in the middle of the spring when it is in place. No issues so far.
I made a bracket and mounted the air fittings inside the tailgate (see pics.) for protection and easy access.
The air lines come up from underneath by the frame and inside the bumper. I did not "T" mine. The lines were just long enough but it took carefull planning.
Don't forget to maintain 5 lbs. pressure in them even with no load.

Thanks. I think I am closer to starting but want to cover all my bases before I get started.

"I put the jack stands right in front of the lower control arm frame bracket." Where exactly is this?

Thanks again!

Read the line again, then crawl under there and you'll see. It's forward of your working area.

Don't forget to keep an eye on the hoses for the brakes and the diff-breather. They are a bit too short for lowering the axle all the way.

You should still support the axle to prevent it hanging from the brake lines. After putting the truck on jack stands, I put the floor jack under the axle to support it too. Once you disconnect the shocks and sway bar from both ends, the axle can pivot on the jack enough to work with the coils on either side.

There is one bolt holding the brake line to the crossmember, remove the bolt. It will give you plenty of slack.

Just pull the breather hose off at the axle tube.

If yours is rusty underneath like mine you may want to just pull the clip holding the brake line to the bracket instead of unbolting the bracket from the frame. You risk breaking off the bolt if it is rusted in place. If you just pull the clip the brake line can pull through the bracket and give you the slack you need.

once the truck is up and supported as described above, and you drop the axle, I still have to gently "stand" on the lower side of the axle to get enough clearance to pull the springs out.

I got it! Thanks for all your help. That was definitely a new adventure for me.
