When I was at NAPA getting the small oil pump to do the wet test the guy said a lot of people use WD40 instead of oil because it doesn't stay in the cylinder as long. Has anyone heard of that?

Would prolly work but I just use something like 3 in 1 oil. Just a few drops sill be fine.

John, some of you know him as Shush, came over and we did the compression test. To me it looks good. The below numbers are cold.
1: 145
2: 135
3: 145
4: 145
5: 150
6: 150
I decided not to do a wet test after the numbers were so good. I can go back and do it is someone thinks it is necessary.
I also replaced the plugs. Some were just worn others had oil or carbon buildup. Here are pics if some of the plugs.

It also passed the playing card test. I haven't started it in a few months so it started rough. The one in the right is from the start and left after driving for a bit.
Your motor is fine. Concentrate on tune up and carb tuning. There is years of service left in that ol' 6cyl
like we discussed Andy....a Myron carb rebuild and I imagine it would do wonders.
I think I want to test mine out know that we have done it....out of curiosity and for peace of mind.

Judging from the condition of 5 & 6 plugs and the high compression numbers there, I suspect some carbon build up. You might want to do a Seafoam treatment or two. It should help clean out some of the carbon. Other than that, you are right on track.
After a carb rework, valve adjust, and good tune up you will want to put some hours on the motor then read the plugs again. If 5&6 still show carbon build up you might want to move up one heat range on those plugs to keep fouling down.

Andy ,Sush2, Astrix Boy, has learned an important lesson here. That we cuss on mud. Playground cussing for sure. I have read on the Cottonland forum these playground cuss words.

There are other more Richard Pryor type cuss words that are used more rarely. 3 post back Jshush used the fck. I have not heard my preacher say that. But I did have a preacher use the word p
ssy when he told a joke one night. Even I was taken aback. I love the Richard Pryor wordage especially around cruisers and camp fires and I am sure I have offended some by that. Our forum has for the most part used Astrix when it came to these words. I think that is proper unless Jes gets into a bad cruiser deal again and then all bets are off.
As for as Volvo's, if you are going to join this group, I say post away but roll in with one of these.

IMOP this is the only Volvo worth leaving a cruiser for.
Volvo's are worthy of collecting and enjoying. You would join the likes of Colin Powell who loves to go into his garage and working on his Volvo's.

I hope that when you join the ranks of the Swed's that you do your due diligence and keep away from the S40. Spivey and wife have had lots of fun with theirs. They may sell it to you for a steal.

Oddly enough, if you go with that particular Volvo, the transmission is damn near a spittin image of an FJ40's. I offered to rebuild a buddies Volvo tranny, and it was insanely similar in shape, and construction.

Lash I saw you posted about the pull a part having a 85 pickup with power steering. I am thinking about going with the mini truck ps. What parts do need to pull off the parts truck? What is a good price they should be asking?

You at least need the steering box and I think you can make the pump work as well. Make sure you get the reservoir if it's separate form the pump.
Get the power steering gear box which is on the frame near the shock tower. Get the high pressure hose from the pump to the gear box. No clue on price, but it will be cheaper than any other junkyard since you will do all the labor.
The minitruck pump and remote reservoir are OK, but I'm not aware of a bracket you could purchase to mount the pump to your 2F. Greg and I fabbed a short adapter tab to mount my old pump in the smog pump bracket. You would probably be better all the way around to buy Georg's Saginaw pump bracket and find a Volvo 240 for a used pump that has the correct metric fitting to accept the high pressure hose. The Volvo Sag pump also has the correct width pulley for a 2F belt. I don't remember any 240s at the Pic-N-Pull, but you can go to their website and search. The local Volvo repair shop over by MetroCenter Mall is where I got mine. Pack heat if you go out there.

I thought the mini truck was supposed to be easier. Doesn't the Saginaw require cutting and welding?
