Did u check the fusable link?

I have not. How would I check it? All of the gauges work when I attempt to start it. Wouldn't they not work it the link was bad? I'm just thinking from my experience with the 100 backward battery fiasco.

Jumper wire around it just to see if that's it.

It's the index finger sized thingy just a few inches from the battery in line on the positive battery cable. Post a pic with your finger pointing at it if you aren't sure. Once you've identified it run a 12 wire to bypass it. Of it cranks, order a fuse able link and start looking for a short because that's what the fuse is there for.

Status Andy?

Well I had to call in a professional. Rob came by and after much testing and head scratching it appears the distributer is bad. It is getting power but I get no spark. I am going to call performance distributers tomorrow to check into having it rebuilt. Thanks for all of the trouble shooting help and a big thanks to Rob for checking it out and then winching me up my driveway.

Wow it has been over 3 years since I have posted in this thread.

It has also been over a year since I started the old 40. I know this is bad, but a 4 and 2 year old have been soaking up my free time lately and it is a little hard to start the monster while the kids are napping without waking them up.

Anyways, I put battery on the charger and aired up the tires in preparation of making a neighborhood run. After 2 hours i tried to start it, but nothing. It could barely even muster a slight honk of the horn. Shouldn't that be enough time, even on a dead battery? It is has been in the truck since before I bought it over 5 years ago so it could just be bad from being old and not being run. How long should I keep it on the battery charger before I call it quits and buy a new one?

2 hours shouldn't be nearly enough, especially if it's a trickle charger. It's not been uncommon for some of my truly dead batteries to take a full two days to get to full charge.

If yours has been dead for a year, I'm betting it's gonna be new battery time.

Thanks to a new battery from 49 Tire the old 40 is mobile again. I think the battery may be the nicest thing on the truck. I figured it was a good idea to invest in a good battery with the minimal driving.

It ran pretty good until it started to bog down when I gave it a good amount of gas in 3rd gear. I stopped to see if it would clear up but I ended up having to hammer the gas, pop the clutch, and peel out in front of a neighbors house down the street just to get it going again. I'm hoping it just needs to run some more and get the crud out of the carb.

I think I have an OEM oil cap that you are welcome to if you come find it in my garage.
