Just a quick day trip to San Lorenzo canyone, do a picnic lunch and maybe hike around. We'll be departing Tijeras around 9:30 Sunday mornign and should get there 1.5 hours later or so. We can meet up at exit #163 on I-25 south, let's say around 11am?

This will be a stocker friendly ride. Bring food, drinks, kids, dogs and enjoy the outdoors.

San Lorenzo Canyon Recreation Area

I'll monitor megalink as well as HDC_2 which is 146.40

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Shoot I wish I saw this yesterday! I'm dying to get the new lx off the pavement. Next time.

It was a great day for an outing yesterday. We took the back way to La Jolla from Tijeras, hoping to play in the river but wasn't able to access any public lands. So, we jumped on I25 at Bernardo and took the hwy down south to San Acacea exit, then took the frontage road to access San Lorenzo rec area. We found a side canyon where we parked at the end and had lunch. The kids had a ball climbing around on small water falls, getting their shoes muddy. A short hike took place, trying to see where the canyon goes and it goes for a while! You need a backpack to go up the canyon and maybe even spend the night up there. I'd explore this area during Autumn when the night time temps aren't super cold yet.

After finishing up lunch and playtime, hopped in our rigs and drove to the end of the San Lorenzo canyon by driving on a major wash due West. Unfortunately, the canyon is blocked by large boulders that fell, long, long time ago. If it weren't for these giant boulders in the way, we could've continued driving west for a long while. Again, more water falls and tree playing took place!

After leaving San Lorenzo canyon, we headed to Riley the ghost town. By now we were losing light rapidly but made it to the town and checked it out. As we approached the town a Hound dog escorted us into the town. The kids had a ball reading the head stones in the cemetary as well as the old school house. We had to use a different approach to Riley this time around due to the normal road washed away by Rio Puerco. There was a dodge truck still stuck in the mess, not sure how long it's been there. There are lots of trails in this area that are worth checking out so perhaps next time we'll do that. The Hound dog again escorted us out by keeping pace with us for a very long time. This dog had serious stamina! It was very friendly and enjoyed meeting new dogs and kids. Looked to be well taken care of by a local residence.
