A brand new vehicle with new engine will have stinky exhaust too if the catalytic converter is removed (or if it didn't work at all).
After operating temp is achieved. When testing the temp of the CAT with a infrared thermometer what should the difference between the front of the CAT to the back be. Back should be substantial hotter?

To me this doesn’t seem like a good diagnostic tool. There’s got to be something better for decerning if your cat is fried.
