A closer look at the OEM Cyclonic Air Filter

That was me, Peter.

I was still trying to track down a 17801-17020 air filter and it seems like I found a source for them for $60AUD

Does that sound right? Of course, usually the deal-breaker is shipping, but that's the price to pay!

yeah the filter price sounds ok, i think i paid more at my local dealer!!!

Let me know where you got that price though...

There were some eBay ones that were not 100 series V8s...i fell for that. Still a good filter, still an OEM Toyota filter, but its for the Turbo Diesel 100 series. It's smaller. I've posted the correct part number on here ages ago. I have a newish air filter element in the back of my LC (the K&N filter is in at the moment) with the correct part number...let me know if you want that part number. (i've posted that on ih8mud before)

i thought you were after the whole thing - from the air intake through to the inner guard inclusive of the airbox!!!
cheers
peter

edit: i thought i should add in something here about the K&N filter i have installed in case there's new readers. I have an Aussie V8 with our cyclonic airbox. The turbo diesel filter i mentioned above i was told was the same...it's not...slightly smaller and as i said above still a good filter. The K&N is much smaller. Fits in the airbox easily. But, remember our airbox is more complex than the stock USA airbox. I have had no dirt on the MAF sensor, but i cleaned it anyway with CRC MAF cleaner as i mentioned in some other threads here. I bough CRC Air intake / carb cleaner.....my air intake and throttle body was spotless. I've owned it since new, 2005, same even now. I havent had to clean it.

So that shows the different air intake system works as i've seen your USA pictures...but to be devils advocate, sometimes you have to check your car.
I've mentioned bad services on here and other sites before, but if i didn't check, i wouldn't know. There's always places that will tick the boxes and say they have serviced your car...when they havent. I've been there with my LC.

check everything, nod, but dont believe anything they say, and get a second opinion if you can. Finding a good mechanic/service centre is difficult but when you do, stay with them and mention you recommended them to someone else. It may pay off.
cheers
peter

I am after the whole thing... still in the research phase, though

The price was given to me from an Aussie member on another forum I visit.

edit: Tasmania ...think of the film, Deliverance.... nuf said :-)

Can anyone speak to the differences between the 80 and 100 boxes?

there is a V8 LC100 being "parted" in Tasmania on Oz eBay

now it says it has ended, but the guy only put it there to advertise he was wrecking/parting it.

The link is dead but I think this is the same guy I talked to prior, who wanted $500AUD delivered.

This is the right price. And it's not too, too bad considering the filter is washable and should last several times longer than our paper filters. You might try Japan4x4 for pricing. Some parts are noticeably more expensive from Toyota Australia.

It's quite different... the entrance and exit of the filter box. But probably could be done if you relocated the filter box's intake tube. (pics stolen from internet and mud)

sorry i thought the eBay link was still ok as the auction only ended a week or two ago.
$500 delivered sounds a bit high. I guess it depends on how they are pricing things.

I have to go to Toyota tomorrow morning to get a quote on something i was going to buy from the USA but the site i was on have minimum international delivery charge of $100.

i'll see if they can give me a quote on it new!

If somebody is interested i can get brand new OEM Cyclonic AIR CLEANER Assembly 17700-50182 with filter in it for $450 shipped to you door.

How much for the resonator?

Thanks Beno. I'll try out my friend's 80 filter when he comes over next time.

LJ, 17801-17020 is just the air filter element. Here is the parts diagram but maybe Onur can help me read it. I see 17700 and 17875. Does the part number need to be 10 digits? Are the 5 digit numbers just used as a reference?

what is number for resonator from digram in post #28?

I see two PN's for the resonator. The official Toyota nomenclature would be "PIPE, INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR"

I think either can work.

17875‑50210
17875‑50280

Do you think the FJC OEM Cyclonic Air Filter would work with some modification. I've got on in my garage that doesn't have a home. I have not looked at it closely but it's an idea.

I ordered brand new full set. Air cleaner assembly and resonator. Should be here this week.

I will know final price after arrival, but it will be $450+. Let me know if any body is interested in first set.

yes only 2 major parts, 17700 and 17875. You may will need some bolts and clamps, but they are minor parts and maybe you will be able to reuse the original ones.

Just a couple installation notes for anybody else installing this filter box...

The protective wiring loom for the MAF sensor has to be opened up just a little near the fender to give the MAF sensor some slack. The PS fluid reservoir mount needs to be modified for its new location. Wildsmith did a good write-up here.

Pirahna makes a nice (though spendy) battery tray that incorporates the relocated PS reservoir. With some mild fab skills, one could do something similar.
