I found someone who will send me the system off an fj60 he is parting out. Mine has never had a/c and Im trying to work up a list of parts for him to send me. This diagram is out of the fj62 FSM. How similiar (aside from the rear air) is it to what I need. Is there anything inparticular I need to remember to ask him for. Anyone who knows how to do this or has done it before, advise would be greatly appreciated!

There is a diaphram on the carb operated by a VSV that kicks up the idle when the ac is on. That's could be what that VSV that is sitting by itself in your diagram is for.

thanks, Ill ask him to look for that.

You also need the fan relay from under the dash. His will be a black square one with an extra terminal on the side that has a white/brown wire on it. You need to replace your small round silver one with his and then connect the white/brown wire that is currently taped up to your wiring harness to the extra terminal.
Without this relay the A/C system does not get power!
If you need the part number let me know and I can check mine.
I did the same thing with my '82 BJ60 last year (A/C was not a factory option for the BJ60's until late '83 and then it was very rare. Even '85's do not commonly have A/C! I used an FJ60 system with mods to work with the BJ60.

Is this one of the four inline under the driver side dash?

If so which one is it and is this the wire you spoke of. thanks for the help

the VSV clips onto the headlight washer botle, if you bottle doesn't have this, then you can mount it someplace else or ask for the fj60 washer bottle.

the other thing you need inside is the AC amplifier, its the size of a back of cigeretes and has a little blue dial on the top of it,. it mounts on the A/C EVAPORATOR in the cab, it should come with the evaporator. you will need to fish this wire out from behind the dash as well and plug it in.

Make SURE you carb even has the kickup diaprham. it very well might not(81-83 fj40s did NOT if they didnt have AC stock, the carbs are otherwise the same carb). if not you can rob the parts off another fj60 carb.

this might be a better diagram to look at, its a fj60.

let me know, if you need pics or parts #, I can look at my 86.

...and you need a 3 groove crank pulley ($$$), pass side engine mount arm with idler pulley, buy a new dryer, wire harness MAY NOT be set up for a/c (A friend installed an a/c system into a non a/c FJ60 @ Mudraks and found this), fan blade normally is larger, the idle up circuit stuff, a/c dash parts, etc ,etc.

not a little job.
