A bit underwhelmed with a recent HZJ73 test drive

Nothing for sale that I recall.....most of the stuff in FL is priced really high for stuff that shouldn't be priced very high.

I don’t know why people never mention diff gearing in this “power” threads.

Put 4.88’s in a 70, run 31” tires and a 1HZ is going to feel pretty powerful through the gears. Sure top end will be lower but diff gearing plays a major part in how much power it feels like it has, as well as tire size.

Well of course but diff gears are a lot cheaper.

And let’s face it, if the truck came stock with 31’s and you put 35’s on it and you don’t do anything to the diff gearing, well you just lost power. Or at least it will feel like it.

I had a 73 MWB soft top. It was a really fun truck to drive and probably the best combination you can get in a 70 series if you are in the right climate to fully appreciate it. It now lives with a great guy in AZ.

I am still working on finding the best 70 series for me but it is looking like the soft top 73 was my favorite so far.

Even with modest boost, a turbo / Intercooler addition will make a 1HZ come alive.

I think with just a little more power on tap in the 73 and it will be just about perfect.

It made a huge difference on the 77 Series and the Intercooler made a significant difference on operating temps.
