98 LC Keyfob Guts

I only have the Valet key. I bought 2 Masters off ebay http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220945535222
Dealer will program one for $105.

Now where do I get the remote guts? Everyone seems to sell the shell but I need the insides. And how to program it once I have them.

The dealership is the only place I've seen the innards, and they aren't sold alone, they come with a key. Although, no reason you couldn't buy an already cut key with maybe broken plastic off Ebay and use the internals from it, reprogrammed to your truck.

As for programming, you need to do the transponder as well as the remote buttons. Instructions for both are in the FAQ.

Thanks Trunk Monkey. Had a look through eBay but saw nothing. Any other ideas on how to fine one? Are other Toyotas compatible?

I just searched land cruiser key and used and found several, $5-$82 (well, and $1200 for a lot of 20 of them).

I programmed 2 remotes for a 100 series both bought from the dealer, once you have the innards just search Mud and find the remote programming thread it'll take you a little bit of time but the directions work and you will be able to program them your selves, save the 100 bucks and at least try it at home first.

Is that only for programming the transponder chip or does that work for the remote as well? I only read the first page for now...

To pair the key to the ECU/immobilizer you need a Master Key. Hence a dealer visit if you don't have a master.

To program a remote the key type is not relevant.

some sellers on ebay have the guts, you can search for lx470 also. you need the 60010 model, not the 60140. 60010 is 4c transponder chipped.

Either will work on the door locks as a door lock/unlock only, but only the 60010 will work on your year for the immobilizer.

It's for both but in short programming the transponder is a cinch the remote is abut more finicky
