This is the first website i've ever posted to before, but by all means be brutally honest and strict if i break any rules, thanks.
My first question may be obvious, but i can't find an answer to it. I'd appreciate any helpful responses.
I've had an elocker diff sitting in my garage for years waiting for something to go in, I'm hoping my 80 will be it. Will it fit?

The overall design of the lockers are close to the same, but the Land Cruiser's are closer to a nine inch rear (or so I thought but read below) and the Taco's are eight inch rears (8.4 for non locking). Also the front and rear carriers on the Land Cruiser are the same size, where the Taco has a smaller front diff. You can get a lot more info on the swaps and wiring of the diff here on mud.

A guy posted this here:

"Yes, Tacoma rear w/locker is the same size as the front 80 diff. They use almost all the same parts, but the gearset is reverse cut for the 80. Being fulltime 4wd and heavier than a minitruck the front diff requires the added strength of running on the drive side of the gear teeth. Minitruck owners can gain driveline clearance in the front and a stronger gear when they use it in the frontend. If used in the rear of a minitruck, you lose strength as the vehicle will be driving on the coast side of the gear. Yes, you could bolt up the taco locking diff into an 80 (w/ mods to gasket area of housing), but it wouldn't make sense to."

The front of a 80 series is a hi pinion 8" reverse cut front end. Why go to a standard cut front end just for an e-locker? Standard cut gears will be riding on the coast side of the gear and will be a lot weaker than a reverse cut gear in the front.

Buy a Built E-Locker diff from another FZJ80 and modify the housing to have it fit. Also the Rear on a LC is a 1 Ton rear end with a 9.5" ring gear so don't even try to fit a TRD locker in the rear b/c it won't even be close.

Also the front and rear carriers on the Land Cruiser are the same size...

Uhh... nope. On the 80's where the e-lockers get harvested from, the carriers are NOT the same size.

The rear is the larger 9" size, typical for all Cruisers. The rear e-locker is considerably different in design than the front, the actuator is very different, as is the locking cog setup. Even the way the backlash is set on the ring gear is very different, it uses shims instead of adjusters on the carrier bearings. I've re-geared a couple and they're a PITA.

The front 80 e-locker is a mirror image of the Taco e-locker, even the gasket. The carriers can actually be swapped, but like you posted above the gears are reverse-cut in the 80-series.

Like WDE said, the Taco/4Runner e-locker would physically fit into the front of an 80 housing (with some minor mods to the housing), but since it's not hi-pinion it will be in the way of the tie rod.

KLF, you got me. That's my bad, I meant to say they arent the same, and the taco has a different front diff. (IFS)

i know someone who might want to buy your e locker. whats the price?

Honestly i'm not sure, I know a new one lists at $1000, but this one is used. I don't know what it's worth.

$500 plus or minus a hundred depending on condition seems to be the going rate. You need to determine the gear ratio. They come in 4.10, 4.30 and 4.56. You can ask top dollar for a 4.56 in very good condition (i.e. harness intact, not cut, etc.). The 4.10 and 4.30 are quite a bit more common.

They actually "list" for more like $1200 but can be purchased new for around $900 (dealership with discount, Inchworm, Marlin Crawler).

You will also need a special short side axle (AFAIK) to fit a rear 80 cruiser elocker diff into a non-elocker 80 rear cruiser axle.
