If I had to guess...drive flange at the wheel hub is worn/stripped. If you paid $2442 to fix that I’d take to an independent to verify drive flange and then challenge the credit card charge.
This is what I was assuming too. From what I have read in the past and this goes hand in hand with a bad drive flange. I just got my hands on some late-model drive flanges for my 80 what will get installed when the knuckles are done next week.
