  • Greased U-joints, added grease to knuckles, removed front sway bar at 173,883 miles, 9/26/10
The Bad, in no particular order:

  • Antenna Mast does not work, so no radio
  • Rear passenger side window will roll down from driver controls, will not go back up with driver controls
  • Knuckles starting to leak just a little bit, visible grease/dirt mix build-up, do not know when the axle service was last performed. No birf soup mix in the the knuckles or interior axle gear oil though
  • Has audible ‘grrrrr’ noise in the drivetrain when letting off gas on flat grades or maintaining constant speed going down hills, have not diagnosed but searching here on MUD, it seems somewhat common with these vehicles. Thinking driveshaft related, possibly needs new U-joints. EDIT!!! REPLACED 3 OUT OF 4 SPIDERS AND NO NOISE AT ALL....SILKY SMOOOOOTH!!
  • Glove box catch is broke, it will flop open to the ground if you let it
  • No rear third seats (could be good for some)
  • One key
  • Leather seats are in less than fair condition, but not horrible. Passenger front is in worst shape, stitching is coming apart on seat.
  • Repainted at some point, no clear-coat was applied, starting to flake in a few spots
  • Passenger side rear quarter panel was taken off and put back on incorrectly, rear bumper tilted up a little
  • Battery does not have a tie-down bar on it
  • No maintenance records prior to July 2008
  • PHH needs doing, was on my list
  • One of the knobs on drivers seat controls is broken
  • D-light is out, as are 2 or 3 of the lights on the left hand side of the AC/heating controls
  • Drivers side sun visor is not original, but functional
I hate to get rid of it, it has been an awesome ride for the last 5 months. A lot of the ‘bad’ on the list is minor and cosmetic, but I have tried to list every little detail that is off from 100% fully functional that I can think of so there would be no questions later. The reason I am selling, I absolutely need a truck, so Taco D-cab here I come, if I can sell this. The vehicle spent its life up until May in Utah and California before that, according to the PO, I never did run a carfax, took him on his word. He did state that he was the 4th or 5th owner, making me the 5th or 6th. 95% rust free, for another few months…then Michigan’s heavy winter salting will take its toll. If you are still interested in the vehicle after reading all this, I can supply the VIN to you so you can check out the history. The only wheeling I have done with it is down 2 track roads, a little mud here and there, but nothing extreme. More pictures available upon request.

Asking $7500 OBO

It's yours man. I found one a bit closer to me. This a solid 80 with and a good maintenance history.

Thanks for the kind words! I actually just started to investigate the LX's past a little deeper, thanks to you Nick. Talking to some folks at Wasatch Cruiser's via email to find out what other stops this vehicle has made along its life path. It will be interesting to see where it goes!

Carfax Disclosure

Upon an interested party doing a carfax check on my vehicle, it was discovered that in 2005 the vehicle was in an 'accident' and the airbags were deployed and then sold/purchased at auction. Still trying to contact the PPO to see exactly what that entailed. It doesn't really allude to anything critical in the ROTW write-up, but just want to throw that out there so there are no suprises. As I stated originally, I did not run a carfax, probably should have. Lesson learned.

Well, I haven't read this in it's entirety for quite a while and is in need of an update. Things that I have noticed or recently developed or have just plain forgot about that need to be disclosed are as follows:

I said the radio doesn't work...well it does work but on a very limited basis. Without the antenna up, you can get some stations with strong signal. Long story, but I just found that out about a month ago after driving it around all summer and fall with no radio. Just plain dumb....

When I had the U-joints replaced, the guy changed the front drive shaft to IN-PHASE without telling me. According to everyone on here, this is not correct, but it's been running extremely smooth, so I say why fix it if it's working good. Searched a few threads on this and some people have actually done this to help with the 'grrrrr' in the drivetrain.

A small leak has developed up front somewhere, but haven't pinpointed it. Doesn't seem to be losing any oil, antifreeze, or power steering fluid, looks like engine oil tho. In the morning there is 1 or 2 dime sized drops of fluid on my garage floor. Just developed after the temps started getting really cold, about 2 weeks ago.

Also, since it has gotten cold out, at start it will whine for about 2-3 seconds. Searched for this also just today in fact, there was a thread on this just within the last few days, doesn't seem to be an issue. Doesn't do it when I start it in the morning inside my garage, just after work when it's been sitting out in the cold for 10 hrs. Didn't do it once all summer or fall. https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/454964-buzzing-sound-when-starting-cold.html.

A very small spot of rust has just started to develop on the rear hatch right above the wiper along the rubber seal for the window.

There are remnant 'shadows' of old TRD stickers that someone had placed on the rear quarter panels.

I said I was going to include the 4th u-joint that I didn't get replaced, very rear one, but I have since given that to my brother who has a 95 LC.

I feel better now...kind of like going to confession.

I am happy to see it go back to the Mountains where it belongs, someday in the future I will have another when I can afford a 'toy' and not have to use it as a DD.
