My cruiser on startup idles terribly for 3-10 minutes (outside temp doesn't matter it seems), and has less power than it should.
I've had some kind of air/fuel/mix/throttle issues for a while where it would start up and idle fine, and then when given throttle or put in gear and it'd go to crap. So I deleted the EGR and emissions which was fun but didn't help really at all. So I sent it to an unnamed shop in San Antonio and they did several thousand dollars of work trying to track it down, and now it's kind of an inverse issue. Starts great, then idles horribly for a while then runs okay but with less power than it used to have.
- Someone had drilled a hole in the butterfly valve and they filled that ostensibly to compensate for bad idle air control valve which they replaced
- replaced ignition coil, distributor cap, plugs and wires
- cleaned out the cats
- cut a hole in the muffler, cleaned and rewelded it back together (no more whistle which I have mixed feelings about)
I'm out of my depth. I honestly think at the exhaust it sounds like a cylinder is missing erratically, but sounds good under the hood. Perhaps the exhaust system doesn't have enough back pressure? I saw some other vehicle threads mentioned removing/modifying the butterfly valve in the throttle body for the EGR delete to perform well?
If anyone has any obvious answers in the meantime that'd be nice. I can take pictures or get some more video if anyone has something to listen for that might help diagnose it. This video is after it's been running for about 10 minutes and it sounds fine but has crap power.
