a bargain at twice the price.

Bump. Someone please buy this so I'm no longer tempted. It's so far away frome me that the costs and hassle aren't quite worth it. On subject: What condition are the seats in?

I'm looking for an expedition base and keep eyeballing this guy but the oxidized paint is a red flag for other mechanical issues. Can you give information about mainenance that has been done? Head gasket, fluid changes/flushes, etc.

I'm just starting down this road and would prefer to not start out with engine issues.

Also, can someone who knows give any information as to why the locking axle lights would "just blink"?

if the locker light's just blinking, they are trying to engage but not. i had to retime my rear solenoid. easy job. sometimes they just need to be worked on a regular basis.

No. I do not know the history. There is no mention of the VIN in the Toyota data base, I've owned it for just over a year. I "heard" that the last owner had the knuckles apart, verified by a local who helped him. Assume the head gasket is original.

There appears to be a lot of bumping going on here.

Is there something I should know about? :grinpimp:

It's just something us kids do a lot...you probably don't remember.
Delivery is always an option.

I don't want no car with fogged-up windows and foot prints on the headliner....

Any idea about the timing belt?

You could put a timing belt just about anywhere inside it. Just pick up one you like.

You need to do some serious homework before you buy an 80. They are awesome expedition vehicles and can do alright in the rocks, but they are "nuanced". Read the FAQ in the 80's tech section to start with, and definitely before you get serious about buying one.

I've been reading for a month. seems like a reasonable question if I don't want to immediately dive into the drivetrain. If I've confused models and you want to remind me that it has a chain then your comments might actually be helpful.

Not a very welcoming bunch... good luck with the sale.

My comment was made to help you, not to be derisive. Pighead's 80 is a GREAT deal with lockers, but it has 230K miles on it and is 17 years old, so there will likely be some maintenance and repairs needed to make it a vehicle you'd want to take far away from civilization. That the engine in an 80 has a timing chain rather than a belt is a fundamental aspect, and indicates you may not know what you're getting into. You also mentioned that oxidized paint might be related to mechanical issues, which I really can't figure out how they are related. And asked why the locker lights were blinking. Which is a fine question to ask, but also indicates you may not be as well read on the 80's.

Carry on, apologies for the thread pollution PH

Says Rookie next to my name for a reason. Genuine thanks for the advice though (no sarcasm).

I'm not extremely well read on 80's but I know general auto mechanics and think I have enough about offroad tech to get started. I am skeptical that every non-professional MUD member/80 owner knew an 80 perfectly before getting his hands and a wrench on the thing. Also seems as though buying the cheapest thing out there along with the service manual is the best way to learn so someday I can be accepted here.. :steer:

Got flamed within my first 3 posts on MUD and incidentally hijacked a classified. Sweet. Apologies Pighead, guess I'm not ready for your truck yet.

Going into it with that attitude (buy one cheap knowing you're going to put some time and $$$ into it) is a great way to get started. I don't know if it's still active, but if it is, join the yahoo group for norcal 80's as well. Good group of local guys that will likely be able to help you in a pinch if you get stuck on a wrenching project. Good luck.

Moving to chat in 5...4...3...
