I have a '98 with 87k. I only drive the LC on weekends, so it will take me a year to get up to 90k. It's had all the regular services and have been well cared for. Since it's ten years old on the original timing belt, should I just take it now to get the TB/WP/90k? Or, just wait until the OD says 90k?

i didn't change my timing belt till 118K on my 99LC. At 136K now and original starter, water pump and O2 sensors. (knock on wood).

i hate you....

I am on my 2nd starter, well i guess this would be my third. The first one lasted 130K the second one lasted 25K (OEM reman), i hope to God this last until i sell it (Bosch)

i am now changing out my o2 sensor and shocks.

But on to your question. I dont think it really matters, if you have the $1000 laying around for a 90K tune up then do it and you have peace of mind, but if not i would wait for a while...

I'm a PM kinda guy, so I would do it when you have the cash. IMHO a 10 tear old belt is a 10 year old belt. Probably fine, but don't risk it if you don't have to. On the flip side, I've heard of a few people going to 120K and beyond without changing. :hhmm:

X2...especially the timing belt. I replaced mine for the second time early ~178,000 just because I had a trip coming up. If that thing breaks you are done. A failed starter or water pump doesn't really have the same dire consequences.

Go by whatever comes first. On my 1999 LC that only had about 60K miles but was over the time limit need a belt. It was a AZ 100 series but the water pump needed to be replaced and the belt was about ready to go. That was at 60K miles. Do the belt now.

thanks for all the advice. Would you do all the fluids, (ATF, Brake, Diffs, etc) to? Or, can I peice meal that over the year. Has anyone heard about the availability of the headers?

I'd do the coolant while you've got the front end open and an oil change. Loud has a thread going with sign ups on the headers.

If you have the money for headers and such then get all your regular services done for the peace of mind and to prepare the truck for a long life.

Fluids are easy and cheap. Switching to synthetics will reap benefits in the cold weather coming up.

Going into a Denver winter I'd make tires my first priority.
