I have seen many instances where a diff has failed due to a ground x/pin, but none when the ring gear was ground to clear the x/pin. On a side note, where in Panama are you? Panama is great.

Panamá City dude .. and yes .. it's a nice place ( keep in mind we are in the 3rd world ) to do off road, some excursion and get life quality.

Actually the rear of my Tencha 3rd member have a gring x-pin .. without problems for now more than 6 years .. and already broke a rear axle ..
