So I'm looking to cut down the fleet. So I'm selling my 60 (and my 01 Silverado 2500..) and planning to get 1 vehicle that'll fill both placed (read: FZJ80)

I bought the 60 off a fellow mudder the June of 09. He put in a few thousand dollars worth of parts into it over the few years he owned it. Including new carpets and Dynamat type material. I have a folder detailing all of his receipts.

Here's a list of what he replaced:
2007
Installed all new OEM radiator hoses, vacuum tubing, waterpump, fan clutch, thermostat, belts, fan, radiator cap, tune up items (tuned up again since).
New exhaust (cat back) with Magnaflow muffler
FJ62 Swaybar
Stainless battery tray (also have a second stainless tray for a dual battery)
VDP Center Console
George's LED domelights
OEM Shocks
OEM Steering Stabilizer
Catalytic Converter
New Carpet over 100+ sq. ft of Damplifier and Heatwave padding
Pioneer Stereo and speakers (also have steering wheel control unit for it)
Urban Landcruiser Battery Cables
IPF H4 Headlights and Bulbs with an upgraded Wiring Harness
31” Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Tires (including the spare) - less than 5K miles on them

2008
New Tailgate lifts
Rebuilt the knuckles (Cruiser Outfitters kit and Marlin seals)
4runner Calipers
OEM Tie Rods/Ends
Aussie Mirrors
Rebuilt Carb (OEM kit, rebuilt by me)
Replaced Oil Pan Gasket (OEM)
Replaced the EGR downtube gasket (OEM)
Wagongear weatherstripping

2009
MAF Tranny/Xfer case overflow hose
Replaced the aftermarket smog pump with a gutted OEM pump (used)

I drove it back to VT from VA non stop with 0 problems and it all started there.

What I added
Ruff Stuff SOA kit
Front axle was cut and turned
Bilstein 5125 shocks 14in travel front 10 rear
Ford shock towers
Urethane bushings
Greasable suspension hardware (all shackles and pins)
35in MTRs with good tread.
Custom front and rear bumpers.
Radioshack CB with 4ft Firestik (might be keeping that)

It has roughly 195,000 miles. The body and frame are clean, maybe a couple little specs of surface rust. Its never seen salt in my ownership. The interior is extremely clean. The 60 runs great, starts right up. It drives extremely well, if you look through my build thread you'll see that I was having issues with the handling. I got it aligned and now it drives so nicely. Its really a blast to drive. But I cant afford to have a vehicle that just sits in the winter, and I cant bring my self to drive it in the winter.

I'd like to get $8000obo, its probably too high but its getting more and more rare to find a 60 in this nice of shape.

I'm going to buy some fluid film and a spray gun this week and coat it.

Aslo, I don't think getting a gun and putting some paint on it is going to get you close to $8000.

Fluid Film is a rust proofer. I think his planning to spray the underside to keep the Vermont salt from distroying a nice cruiser if he drives it in the winter.

I was one of them. I've never liked it when people have a problem with giving out their reserve. I never bid when I get that response. 99.99999% of the time when I hear that reply it's more than I am willing to spend.

Aslo, I don't think getting a gun and putting some paint on it is going to get you close to $8000. I'm a bodyman ,and assuming you don't do it for a living I would offer you less than $4000 after you painted it. It's just the nature of the beast when you start out doing bodywork. If you do it or have done it all the power to you, but I would assume you would already have a gun???

Your 60 is nice, but definitely not $8000 nice even for an eastcoaster. I'd say $5000-$5500 tops around my neck of the woods. Here's a link to a 60 with VERY minimal rust with a 5 speed https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-trailers-sale-wanted/447980-1985-toyota-fj60-w-5-spd.html. I could get it and have it shipped for under $6000. You would definitely be better off keeping it.

I'm not sure how someone not telling you their private reserve is reason not to bid. Not to mention...if you knew about this thread you knew the reserve. Actually I have done body work and shot paint, it came out quite well...I could show you pictures. But it was already cleared up that I was talking about Fluid Film not paint.

That 60 isnt even comparable to mine. The only good thing about it is the 5spd. It has 120k more miles. Lower quality suspension and from the sounds of it the body is reasonably beat up. I'm not sure how you know it has such little rust, the pictures really dont show much of anything.

I appreciate your opinion, I really am in no rush to sell it. I got an offer for $6k. Basically if I get $8k awesome! If not, well I own and drive a badass 60 so I'm just as happy.

Fluid Film is a rust proofer. I think his planning to spray the underside to keep the Vermont salt from distroying a nice cruiser if he drives it in the winter.

Exactly...

Never seen the thread on here. When I started looking for a cruiser fleebay was the first place. I saw your thread after and replied.

My reason for not bidding on your truck or any item for that matter, is I'm not going to help you get to your inflated price range when my max bid would be thousands less. It doesn't make much sense. Since we are on the subject, why don't you like to reveal your reserve? Is it like some top secret government thing. What it comes down to is a basic trust thing. If I'm a potential buyer I want full disclosure like in real estate. The minute someone gets "mysterious" about anything I ask regarding the car/truck/boat/etc. I back away. The bottom dollar you are asking should be the first thing you are up front about.

You CAN argue his suspension over yours, but that opens a whole new can of worms with the SUA v. SOA debate which has been beaten to death thousands of times. You have some cheesy front/rear bumpers with stock gearing on 35's with no lockers. I can say it's wheelin' capabilities will be sub par at best.
You got a tad over half your asking price on fleebay. So far, no real action on this thread. You better hold onto it. Not until you regear/lock and put a winch on it will you get close to $8k. It's really like an unfinished project/mall crawler the way it sits now.

The reason I dont tell anyone the reserve is well, its my choice. You really have no reason to be arguing with me, especially in my FS on MUD. Its pretty silly to be complaining that I wouldnt tell you the reserve on my own auction, I dont get how its mysterious. At any real auction they do not tell you the reserve.

I never said anything about SUA vs SOA, I was simply saying the components that make my suspension are better than his. Cheesy front and rear bumpers? Ok thanks dude I built both of those, the front is 3/16 steel with 1in mounts and D-rings...stout...cheesy? Ok... Rear bumper is just some .120 wall tube I bent up, its taking assaults by trees while wheeling that would have caused 1/4 panel damage and it shows no damage other than scrapes. I'll give you the fact that it has stock gears, but dont knock it until you try it. I have no issues driving hilly VT with it. Its not as bad as everyone whos never done it thinks.

I could keep arguing with you but its worthless...it really serves no purpose.

Could a mod please delete these unconstructive posts?

Hey now i personally think that those Cheesy bumpers look cool and i would run them on my cruiser. GLWS

FWIW-I like the bumpers too, they look good and seem very functional. I'd put them on my cruiser, but I'm still looking for one. The asking price on this one is outside my budget, but c'est la vie...that's MY problem, not the seller's. :crybaby:

Have to say, I can't really see where you're coming from on that point, toyzz. It has nothing to do with trust. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a seller trying maximize the return on his investment; in most cases it'd be considered irresponsible not too. It's capitalism...the whole benefit of eBay for the seller is that it provides great visibility and promotes competition, which in theory determines the ideal market value for the commodity being sold. The seller doesn't have to set the price, the market (what buyers are willing to pay) does that. And it's the same in real estate...I don't state the bottom dollar price I have to have when selling my home. I list it for the highest price I think I can get for it, judging market conditions, and negotiate from there.

If you don't want to pay his asking price, make him your best offer or don't bid. Either way, you're helping determine the market value of his rig, which is knowledge he uses to decide whether or not to sell. But personally slamming him for wanting to find out how high a buyer is willing to go for a really nice truck doesn't make any sense.

My $.03.

x5 on the bumpers!

If you think his price is high go buy some beat up swamp donkey! Dont hate on him its
his rig he can ask what he wants for it. Plus you have to many toys any how:)

toyzz, check out the MUD thread on that truck you have the craigslist link for. I wouldn't touch that 60 (no offense to the seller, but I have a pretty clean 60). The rockers are rusted, and there are many more miles on it... The interior doesn't come close to comparing. If you've been following pricing on 60s lately you'd find that better deals will be had on MUD or CL. Ebay is known for having inflated 60 pricing; at least that is what I have seen in following prices. Hope that helps in your search for a vehicle. And I promise you that the SOA will outflex the SUA OME stuff.

And I promise you that the SOA will outflex the SUA OME stuff.

I agree. BUT while flex may get your front tires on the rock, it's usually traction that'll get your rear tires off of it.

Swampgas went off the grid talking about capitalism, promoting competition and determining the ideal market value for commodities??? I took economics years ago in college, but it's been awhile. Hey swampy, do you let the realator know your price when selling a property? I'm sure you do, and in turn they let potential buyers know what you want for it. You negotiate from there. I've never seen a house for sale where you couldn't find what the seller (overpriced or not) wanted for it. Maybe where you live it's different. You said that if I didn't want to pay his asking price, make him my best offer or don't bid. Reread it again. THIS IS WHY I AM POSTING THIS!! I didn't know his asking price, inquired about it, and got a "if I tell you I'll have to kill you" reply.

For what it's worth guys I am not knocking this rig. It's a clean, preserved ride with a ton of potential. Just a bit overpriced IN MY OPINION. I just have a problem with the fact that he wouldn't disclose the reserve price. Here are the forum rules regarding selling...... 4> PRICES are required...if you are selling it here, POST A PRICE...if you want people to bid on it, post it on EBay and link it here.... This reigns true for most forums i frequent. Though forums are not ebay, I inquired about his reserve price via email which wouldn't be visible by anyone else (unless wanted). Why the big secret??? I can't figure it out, but can only try and make sense using my theory stated earlier. 99.9999% of the time an individual will not disclose the reserve means the item is being listed at an inflated price, and not worth bidding on.

What are you talking about...? Thats exactly what I did. As you can see if you read my first post my asking price is $8k, its been there since day one. Then I decided to post it on ebay so people could bid on it....and I did. I have no idea what you're point is. I did exactly what you said I should do. I cant figure out why you feel the need to pick a fight in my FS on MUD over me not telling you my reserve price on ebay. Sounds like I walked back into high school

Going by your rationale, I think it's more like preschool buddy.

I saw the ebay ad BEFORE I saw your thread here on mud. I still have both our emails where I asked and you denied if you want them.

I really don't feel like going back and forth about this, but I have to you ask AGAIN, why wouldn't you disclose your reserve? You want my answer? I think you were looking for a few smacked asses who would blindly bid on your 60 in hopes you'd get more than $8000. If not, you would have linked the ebay ad to this thread and saved some typing.

You have to be kidding me. You're getting so bent out of shape because I chose not to make the reserve public? I posted my truck FS on mud long before I thought of putting it on ebay. I want to sell it to someone who appreciates 60 and not just some random guy off ebay. I didnt tell anyone that asked my reserve price, but you're the only one holding a grudge. Again I will tell you why I didnt make the reserve public. BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO. Is that difficult to understand? It is 100% my decision and that is my reason. I still have the messages also...wtf I'll post them.

Would are you looking to get for the cruiser? I'm in Philly and would have no problem coming to get it. Let me know.
~Brian

Hey Brian,
Thanks for the interest but I'm going to keep the reserve price
private.

Thanks

No problem. Good luck with the sale.
~Brian

Evidently it was a problem. The only reason I put it on ebay was because people pay stupid amounts of money for cruisers on ebay. I was hoping that would work in my favor. Obviously it didnt. I think my cruiser is easily worth $8k in comparison to the price others have sold for. I've been to many car auctions and bought 2 wrecked WRX's from them and they never tell you the reserve price before the bidding ends.

First off, Landcruisin'60 has done a lot of good work on both cruisers, the one he is trying to sell and the one he already sold, I watched both builds, no cut corners or anything.

And if I ever sold my 60 I would take no less than 8k.

Plus I'm getting tired of people throwing these things away for $1500. Because in x number of years you won't even be able to find one. I'm sure cash for clunkers took out a good number of them when that was going on too. The fewer cruisers the more they should cost. They are antiques.

GLWS Landcruisin'60

Thanks. I'm going to Fluid Film it and drive it. Its a nice truck but its silly to have it sit around not being used. Hopefully it doesnt rust. If it does no biggie...it'll be closer to being the truck I want it to be.
