HI Everyone, wow....LOts of info on this site.:)
Bought a 87 Bj-74 broke down on my ride home from SK to Ontario.
Looks like the Waterpump seal went. There was a crazy amount of Rusty water and Corrosion in the system. How do i know if my Waterpump is fine? Shaft Turns fine, no noise?? Ant Tips??

Can I buy all the parts at a Local Toyota Dealer, looks like the 3B and 13BT parts work together?

Any P#'s for the Waterpump Gasket
Rad Hoses the 2 biigger ones
Rad Cap
I took the whole T-stat assembly off and require both gaskets, are they the same as the 3B, and #'s.

ANy Help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Brent

your going in there to change your seal. well whats the point in just changing the seal. Change the whole assembly. Its stupid to go back there in say 10,000kms
Look at changing your thermostat and rad hoses too for piece of mind.

Do you mean change the whole T-Stat Assembly, or the waterpump? Is teh T-stat assembly the same as teh 3B, which i could get at a local Toyota dealer??

Thanks

Brent

Just went through this. I have all the numbers you need but not home till friday. Check out the diesel part section should have every thing you need.

How Will you know if the waterpump is OK, MY 87 Bj-74 was leaking at the pump, took apart pump looks fine?
Does anyone havethe Rad Hose P#'s,

Any Help would be great

Brent

Rad hoses are readily available. If you can't locate them in your location, then call and I'll send some out to you.

Best to put your location in your profile details. This is a world-wide forum and it's helpful to know your location so we can point you towards people who can be helpful to you.

There are FAQs and other information in the diesel section - have a look there to see if your questions have been dealt with before.

If your cooling system is full of crud, flush it very thoroughly with the heater(s) in the hot position to get as much out as possible. Run clear water through it until it is as clean as you can make it, then fill it with water and run the engine for a few minutes and then flush it again.

Replace your water pump if you're in there for servicing the cooling system, as they will often leak when the system is flushed and the water pump is getting older.

Water pump gasket - 16271 58010 - not many left from toyota
Lower Rad hose - 16572-58040
Upper Rad hose 16571-58040
By pass hose - 1" hose from local supplier cut to fit
Rad cap - 16401-54750

I had the leaking gasket problem. I chose to replace the waterpump while i was in there. I got all my parts at American Toyota except for the by pass hose... NAPA. NAPA has a few parts for the 3b so you might be able to get from there. I am lucky and live 10 min away from American Toyota so getting parts has been easy. If I didnt have that I would be calling John @ Radd Crusiers! He's on speed dial! HTH

Thanks for the info, I am going to go with the new water pump, its only $220 CDN.

Now i am just hoping that was the only problem. I had flew to pick up the BJ when i boght it, driving home is around 30 hours, well she overheated 1.5 Hours into my Journy back, overheated, pulled over, cooled it down, at this point nothing was leaking, as i added coolant it started to leak.

I couldn't exacly see the leak, just knew it was coming from w-pump area.
The overflow bottle had a inch and a half of rusty crud and rusty water, and the rad hoses were crusty as well, the ends had alot of rusty build up, pretty ugly, I can see in the Block is real rusty as well.
could this damage anything else?
Whats the best way to clean all this out, once i put new pump on?

Any Input would be great,

Thanks
