Regarding pins and rattle, OEM panels have this recess that fits a pin's head in such a way that it is flush.

That would make sense why the new generation pins could work with thinner material as the clamping force is optimum at a thinner point if not countersunk.
 
First panels are a fact , my buddy cut out a test run out of 11 gauge aluminum . Pretty happy with them but minor modifications needed on the side panels for some measurements, not easy recreating something from a set of 30 year old beaten up panels but he pulled it off . Hoping to make the adjustments next week and start running a large batch of them .
