I started out today dealing with damage to 3 of our trees from a monsoon storm. It's too hot so I worked on cleaning up the steering wheel instead. Much better. Still too hot so I'm getting in the pool.

The only salvageable dash vents are from my 88. They're a lighter shade of blue and the one on the passenger side is different than the 86. The end of the long coin slot pad is shaped different than the 88 short slot. I'll look into some different vents but these will work for now.

I thought I'd show pics of the 86 long coin slot dash pad compared to the 88 short coin slot. Somebody had asked a few pages back. The more I look, the more I'm thinking about running the 88 instead of the 86. :hmm:

I dropped the fuel tank skid plate under the 88 and drained the tank. Dropped the tank so I could get the wire harness from the passenger floor connector back to the fuel tank and on to the tail lights. I'm hoping to attempt to start this soon. It's friggin hot and humid but I gotta keep moving. My shoulder replacement is coming up soon.

@gnob helped me out today with some wiring questions. He always comes through for me so THANKS again man! I'll be bugging you when I get to my 8274 rebuild/upgrades too.

Progress is looking good! I hope you get some cooler weather soon to get more work done. It’s been too dang hot this year.

ooh 8274 upgrades! Anxiously awaiting those and wondering how many gigglepin parts will be involved......

I was hoping to convince work that we needed to build a reversing polarity contactor, but I've had no traction on that.

You have put so much love into this truck !!! IMO you should just get the new dash if there available.
Putting the old dash in is like taking a shower and putting your dirty under wary back on 😂 your truck is way to nice for that again JMO

@ntsqd, No Gigglepin parts. Just a 9.5XP motor and Albright contactor. IDK if I want to add a sump drain or anything else. We'll see.
@Broski, I just can't spend $400+ on a dash pad. Speaking of dirty underwear, It's only available in brown.🤣

That’s a no go at any price.

It’s a slippery slope for sure!

The last winch install that I made I had nothing but a bare M8 winch. No remote, no contactor(s), no fairlead, no cable. Albright contactor is the default, but there are several versions (not counting the 24VDC versions) so be careful in which you choose. I bought the contactor, hawse fairlead, and the cable from Custom Splice. I wanted to build the remote as I didn't like the price, quality, or both of any that I could find.

I've tried the 4 pin trailer connector for a winch remote with dismal results. I wanted something with at least 3 contacts that was designed with a reasonable number of connect/disconnect cycles in mind. A 3 prong outlet came to mind and is about to become my default winch control connector. There's probably some cosmic rule somewhere that I'm breaking by using them this way, but I doubt that I need to worry about someone plugging a 120VAC appliance into them.
I built the system to have both an outside controller connection and one under the dash and used 16/3 SJOW to connect the sockets to the Albright.
Under Dash Socket
Outside Socket with a semi-sealing cover on a lanyard.
Self-coiling remote cord nice that is has a 90° molded plug as that works well for where I have to put the sockets.
Remote control pendant Not the greatest one, but the really nice ones come with a really nice price tag.

If I could only talk gigglepin into making their cam sprocket with a reversed helix then I could sink the winch further into the bumper out of the radiator airflow and be able spool the cable off the top of the drum. I've debated modeling it and having someone like Stratasys print it in metal.

@ntsqd, Thanks for posting the links.

As far as the Albright contactor, I got a couple from @PIP as well as a Mahle motor. I have seen nothing but positive reviews and he stands behind them so I should be go to go there.

I thought about having in cab controls. Still undecided on that. Electrically, my truck is pretty bare bones, basic.

The airflow across the radiator had been a problem above 65 MPH on my 88 until I built the current bumper so I am thinking about a remote mounted control box.

Really like my in cab controls, no worries about batteries or losing the remote 😎

I used the remote for both because even in the size of an FSB I'm out of convenient places to put fixed controls. It also takes care of needing an 'arming' switch, something that I think is important with a fixed winch control. I also have the power to the winch on a marine battery switch under the hood so that the large power cable isn't hot all of the time. Power to the sockets comes from the large cable, so they're dead too when the switch is off.
For my expected use this is ideal. Were the truck a serious winching use machine (hard core crawler, recovery truck, etc.) I'd likely have wired it differently.

I did in-cab winch controls and dual batteries on my 89 years ago with a kit from 12voltguy and they were really nice, with that said I don't think I'm going to use them on my current rig. I also plan on having a kill switch for my winch so I'd have to get out of the truck anyways.

Today I kept running into "something" that would stop my progress. So I would move to something else and again,"something" stopped me. Little stuff like I needed hose clamps for the radiator hoses and I needed some wire for harness mods to hook up the fuel pump and sender. Struck out at the local auto parts store so I started making a parts list.

Anyway, I have stuff coming from Summit and I'll order some other stuff tonight.

I did swap the 88 dash pad on and buttoned up the dash. Ran wiring for my light bar, bled brakes and clutch. Adjusted clutch and PB switch. Getting ready to cut the trans tunnel cover for the shifters.

So I'm going to pick away at what I can and should have a bunch of supplies to work with after the weekend.

I should be able to temporarily rig a battery up front when I get ready to start it. I have to figure out the power steering reservoir mount first. A little progress is better than no progress.
