Hello all, it's been a minute.
So, my 2f was desmoged many years ago. The EGR Valve is still attached. Being that most ( will attach pic) of the air hose ports are capped/ plugged, does the EGR still function.
The reason I ask, is because once the engine is started it idles very rough until it warms up, no matter what the daily ambient temp is, and water/ condensation always accompanies the exhaust.
There is always a smell of fuel, and a significant hesitation when I stomp on the skinny pedal. I have a 5sp, and can get her up to 85MPH on the highway.
If the EGR valve is a moot point, it doesn't make any sense to pull it to clean.
If it's still functional, then maybe some of the symptoms the engine is exhibiting, might be caused by the EGR. If its no longer needed being that the 2f has been desmoged, can I remove the EGR valve? Will a blocking plate be needed and does someone make them.
What else can the problem be, what should I check?
Should I turn the 2f into a fuel injected engine?
Thank you mucho.

from the looks the egr is not functional, you have headers, and a weber? and this is in CA?

you can remove it, you will need to block off the end going into the intake manifold,

the poor running engine problem doesn't sound like its the EGR valve to me.
If the EGR valve was stuck open, the engine would barely idle.
Its easy to tell if an EGR valve is stuck open a bit -- it creates a big vacuum leak that's easy to see with a vacuum gauge.

Hesitation when stomping on the gas pedal is classic carb accelerator pump failure.
Poor idling at first start could be a vacuum leak -- with the prime suspect being the intake manifold. Once the manifold heats up. the metal expands and the leak can seal off.

Check your manifold vacuum at startup and watch it as the engine warms up. Idling.

Great. Thanks for the information. What do I use to block it off?

Block purchased and already in hand.

So, it takes alot to get her to turn over. Even if I've already been driving her around. I have a 300amp alt, HEI dizzy, and 2 red top optimas.
What else can be the problem, new wires and plugs?

the engine rotating to start?
is it a gear reduction starter?
good battery cable from + to starter?
clean contact points?
good ground from starter to frame?
good ground from - to engine and frame?

300 amp alternator?
