HI folks,

I am looking at a used 8274 and am looking for advice on things to look for? It works apparently but the solenoids need replacing. I haven't priced these yet but the winch is cheap enough. Are there problems areas to look for or olders models etc that should be avoided?

Thanks

for selenoid replacement I highly recomend 12voltguy.com i've got his seleniods remote mounted under the hood and they work very well and gives a cleaner look on the winch plus you can accidentally rip the box off with a branch

I replaced the top housing because of a bushing failure, lower housing kit, brake kit, new clutch (bent) new needle bearing = $450 from 4wheel parts. There alot cheaper than Warn's site. You can't buy any of the upper housing components that are inside of it (spur gears)

When I opened mine up I found the case slogged out(about 30 thou) under the bush that carries the shaft for the break assembly made a nice oval hole. No access to a tig welder at the moment so filled it up with metal putty stuff and am running it as is.

Before I buy again I will find a new one and see how much slop is in that unit.
I found all replacment seals dirt cheap from a local supplier although I had to pay good money for the friction material on the breaks down hear!

Good luck
