8274 disengaging under load

Trying to assist a 32k lb boom lift yesterday out of the mud with my 8274 (and my FJ40). Under a heavy load, the 8274 would pop out of gear.

I put an upgraded Warn motor on it and this is the first real test of the winch. Wondering if I missed a step in installing the motor.

It is an 8274 with the pull out knob to engage and disengage the free spool?

The pull out knob is popping out by itself under load. And impossible to pop back in without taking the load off the vehicle. It doesn't disengage all the way to free spool but rather just locks the load in place.

I'll take a look at your write-up and possible rebuild the winch from ground up.
