Just refurbing an old 8274. I need to replace the bearings that the top housing gear rides on. I'm pretty sure you just drift the axle out the sides of the housing but I'd like to confirm that before I start hitting it with a hammer.

Can anyone confirm this for me and is it better to punch it out the outboard or inboard side? Thx in advance.

Dont punch it out if you dont have to...super hard to get back in

The pin should only press inside to out. The inside hole is smaller than the staked outside hole. Outside is the brake side. Be very careful pressing it back in.

Ok, just as I thought. thank you.

The gear has to come out. The bearings are toast.
