8274 Cable Question

I recently purchased a used 8274 winch for the 40 with no cable installed.

I see the hole in the spool for the cable to go through but how does it attach inside the spool? Or does it? I can't find anything on on how this attaches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Usually with a wire clamp. Available at any hardware store. Pull cable through hole, bend it back on itself and clamp it.

The little plastic cover on the spool closest to the hole in the drum gives you access.

The cable terminates at the end of the spool. Remove the end cap and you will see the cable clamp (part of the spool) where it will attach.

Probably teaching you to suck eggs .... but, the clamps are just to stop the cable falling off the drum, there should never be a load on the winch without at least 4 turns of cable on the drum ... infact you could push the cable through the hole and tie a knot in it

Painted the last 15' of my cable a bright red to show me end of cable.

Won't tell you what happened to cause me to think of this one......
