OK, So, I've just purchased an 81 LC with the 3B engine. Not my first 4x4, not my first Toyota. However, it is my first diesel and it is my first LC. So, here's the situation.

First off nearly all the body mounts and a few frame crossmembers are rusted right out. The rest is really just toyota cosmetic type of stuff that has been done improperly a few times over the years. Fibreglass, Bondo, Rubber and Steel all reside on my truck. So to start, I want the body off or up enough so I can easily get at the frame and begin strengthening that. The next question is what to do with the body. Do I leave it stock, as it would make it a very big but functional vehicle or do I do something crazy and try to shed a few pounds. I haven't checked yet, but I assume that it is a 24v system, this limits what I'm willing to do as far as any wiring, dash, lights etc...(I think).

OK, so there you have it. I am now opening the floor to any and all suggestions. Have an idea you know works? Maybe you've been wanting to see someone try something different? The cheaper the better, so buying all new body panels and hiring someone at 100/hr is not what I'm looking for.

One more thing, this will have to remain my daily driver so please take that into account when making suggestions. That's not to say don't make those suggestions, I still wanna hear em. It just means don't be too surprised if I don't use your idea. Though I may use it partially or modify it somehow, who knows!

If you happen to live anywhere near Victoria, BC and feel like throwing me your 2 cents in person, feel free to contact me.

Thanks a lot!

best bet is too have fun with it till you can afford a rust free gasser 60 down south, bring it up and convert over all your engine and drive train.

I am fixing up a rust BJ60 right now. They are a lot of work. Canada was not kind to these trucks.

But if your not too bad of a frame, just clean it up and use some POR-15 paint on the frame. Weld in new metal.

Your truck should be 12 volts. My BJ60 is 12v.

Go to the diesel section if you need help with the 3b engine. for body and frame uestions this is the place.

12v eh?

ok, so, realistically, that's probably what will happen. The frame ain't too bad and will be taking it easy anyways for the first bit to get used to her. I played around with some pictures off the internet and came up with a somewhat final product of what I want her to look like. I f anyone has tried this whit a 60 let me know if you encountered any problems etc... Guess we just have to wait and see!
