I believe that the stock bumper is cut so the fairlead is mounted to that bracket behind the bumper

the mounting bracket takes the fairleed stress, not the bumper

From a marketing stand point, it only takes trimming and drilling 4 holes to make a generic plate work.

Absolutely, but for us lazy and lazy people if someone makes a nice prefabbed version where I won't have to mod a plate for a reasonable price then I am all for it. If the price is too high then back to what you just said.

this is what i did. the number plate has magnets behind it and just pulls off. its been on a couple of years now and works well.

i wanted to keep it as discreet as possible, its a 12000 lb.

i gained every inch of height i could so i cut the universal winch plate to fit inside the chassis ends, and then cut and welded on two pieces of angle iron.

'96 HDJ 80 manual.

i did tidy the sollenoids up in the end.

gas welded a plate to the battery retainer which then bolts to the metal frame of the sollenoid box.

Shipping from England to the U.S. isn't too bad (not as bad as the reverse) so how about a price?

fellas, im flattered by your interest, but ive unintentionally hijacked the op's thread here who was testing the water on fabbing up a winch plate.

see what your man comes up with, i might even have given him some ideas :)

if he doesnt take it any further, or its not what you want, we'll sort something out.

I really like what you did with your plate. There are clearly interests in the product OP brought up. So....can someone make it for a reasonable price?

To the OP: I feel my slice'n dice could certainly use some professional improvement.

I had the plate + 12k winch mounted fairly close to the core support, which left the fairlead mounting surface about 3/4" short of the bumper skin.

The position was not necessarily ideal, but there are so many holes drilled in that plate from the factory, and none of them line up with the mounting holes on the frame of the 80. So to leave enough metal around my newly drilled mounting holes, a compromise was needed.

Despite the fact that the fairlead bracket was spaced back, I still had to cut the front of the channel (red lines above) - due to the curvature of the stock bumper - so the plate would fit. I'm sure the channel structure of the plate imparts strength, and removal of the front part of that channel took some of that away. Triangulation at the cut site would certainly help.

Fairlead mount: I used 3/4" steel tube spacers & grade 8 bolts to bring the fairlead forward so it would extend from the bumper skin, and the line would be protected. I had planned on a solid full-size aluminum spacer, but then the Slee bumper came along...

Keep in mind that this truck is not going to be serving as winch master, pulling line all day. The intent is to have a winch available on this truck to pull myself out if the predicament to do so might arise - and since I plan to 'wheel this one here in the southeast, and having had only two outings with 'wheeling in slop in my 'wheeling life (not counting my military service), I felt a winch is necessary, for the occasional pull. For that, my setup seemed appropriate.
