Hey guys, have search everywhere to see if anyone has had this problem. I have just replaced my gearbox and converter due to slipping issue and now the box won’t downshift. I used a second hand box and don’t know exactly the condition it is internally. Was told it had less miles on it. I can shift through gears manually to drive it but in drive it’ll shift straight to 4th once hitting around 15mph and then won’t down shift when foot flat or slowing down. Gearbox is a A442F and motor is 1FZ-FE with 450,000km on the motor.

Seems like (in this forum at least) the A442F transmission has a history of solenoid issues causing odd shifting behavior.
Are you anywhere near this shop in Victoria?

Thankyou for the reply,
Sadly I’m in Western Australia. Will have a look into changing out the solenoids though will keep this updated if it fixes it and what I do.

Much appreciated.

Also make sure the kickdown cable moves freely and is properly adjusted.

Solenoids are the same as for the AW450-43LE and can be found pretty cheap. Worth searching around.

Initially thought it was the lockdown cable but have adjusted it multiple times and it doesn’t change. Have pulled on it and it still returns so to me I believe it’s all good. Thankyou for those solenoids though will definitely be giving them a crack.

Do you have the cable in the correct position on the throttle body, won’t shift correctly if it is not

Hey Ajax1, yeah I have adjusted it into pretty much every position. E.g. started it at loose. Drove for a bit. Tightened slightly. Continued till I thought it was way too tight. Then followed the hannes book and the gearbox still continued to do the same thing.

What I was saying is not only that, but have seen twice where the cable end is not hooked up to the correct part on the throttle body, they had the cruise control cable where the tranny goes and the tranny cable where the cruise control goes, made the truck shift crazy and act like the tranny was having shift issues. Just something stupid to verify

Hey guys after a long waited response apologies. I have swapped the filter and solenoids with my old transmission, re-adjusted the kickdown cable and filled the transmission up with oil just a bit higher then it says and it runs perfect again. Thankyou guys for responses as I was completely lost as to what to do. Happy she is running again.

Glad you got your truck back on the road.
