If I keep the 80 I will need an 80 Series trailer.

Was thinking of a Toyota pu box (cut the pu in half and make trailer out of it).
I would put 80 wheels and matching tires on it with same lift at my 80 (non at this time) and paint it to match the 80.
What is the drawback of this kind of setup?

I have a 1973 Chevrolet 8 foot pickup box trailer. It is very handy. It is mounted on a 1950's Chevy truck front frame section with a straight front axle with the kingpins welded. I say use an 8 foot full size box if you are not going to try go way in with it. That way you have a full size truck...;)

U mean other than looking joe-redneck?

try a *real* 80 trailer!
Find a wrecked 80, cut the front half off, weld a tongue, and talk about serious cool factor when towing the thing...! :)

I a past life I had a 79 Ford Bronco with an 8' ford pickup bed. All were painted to match. At the time I thought it was a great rig. I pulled a lot of junk around, hauled dirt, rocks, and all kinds of stuff. Really liked the rig. Sold them separately after about a year of hard labor.

To ease my concerns about looking too "Joe redneck", I put matching tires and wheels on the trailer. Very handy. I highly recommend the setup. Building an "80" trailer sounds like a great idea!

I like the surplus trailer but do you need a trailer to get the trailer beck home?
Where would you get parts like bearing for it?
Wounder how much one goes for and how bad of shape they are in.

How much do they weigh?

First of all, how much cash and time are you willing to invest? If you are going to do all the labor you can build something very special.

If you are going to have something built, consider one like mine. I am extremely happy with it. You can specify dimensions and running gear, since it is essentially one-off. I'm presently running it with the lid off and an aluminum rail installed to carry my KTM - but it is easily configured for camping or hauling a load of bark.

The ones I listed are all in the condition/state shown in the pics. If they have wheeels/tires in the pics, that's how they'll be when you show up. The company that runs the auction seems pretty good (most of the time) in their descriptiosn -- if it's not road worthy, they seem to indicate it.

I've seen parts on ebay -- there are quite a few military trailer/vehicle related sites -- I'm sure you could get parts info from them.

The auctions start at $50 and I've seen trailers go for that much in the past. Most times its around $400 or $500 for one of these trailers.

I'm waiting for them to release a few in CA -- seems as though the ones I'd like to get are way too far for me to want to drive for a pick up.

don't underestimate the cost and aggravation of getting a trailer trail-ready.

Buddy of mine built an offroad trailer from a utility one, and when you add the time and cost to do the pintle / lunette assembly, changing axles, changing springs, looking for LC compatible hubs, bearings and what not, rack, etc, it adds up quick...

Yep. I started from scratch with my trailer, about 4 years ago. Excluding the OverLand tent and rack, I am into it just over $5k. Well worth it, but if I had to do it again, I would buy a Chaser with the air suspension, water tank, pump, battery, tail gate, lid, pintle hitch, and HD 6 on 5.5" hubs.

Then I'd go traveling.

This is kind of OT, but have you guys seen the TVAN trailer from Oz? I am sure hoping they will eventually find a USA distributor. It is way cool. Be sure to check out the suspension!

These are nice trailers. Why do I get the feeling that one of this beauties will cost about the same as a '99 100 series Landcruiser?
