Now and then, the cruiser will do nothing when the key is turned over, usually after just shutting it off. Not even a relay will click, no lights come on, even door locks wont work. No sign of any power - total 100% electrical blackout. Then misteriously it will work and start again after turning the key on and off usually or no effeort at other times. Battery is new. Starter is new. Is there a relay that slowly dies this way? Could it be the ignition switch? Any other wiring possibilities stories similar to this? It started happening after I replaced the pesky little hose. Anything that can get rattled in that region that causes this? The truck has seen better days and is clocking 219,000 miles. It did it this morning at Toyota, they thought I had some crazy gypsy kill switch, but I told them it is the ghost in the machine. Looking for ideas and leads to CSI this before it dies for good. Perhaps it is the curse for burning Jim's signs at S&T. Need help. Thanks.

Check BOTH battery cables at BOTH ends for good connections.

Mickey;

Check all three fuse links. Kinked or corroded fuse links are known to cause this problem; as well as what C-dan says.

...

geez...with your rig, it could be just about anything. :rolleyes:

Yeah, not too long ago the fuselinks gave me problems. Two at the battery and... the other one I forget where that one was.... need more AM coffee.

Mickey;

All three are connected to the positive lead at the battery; assuming u have a stock cruiser.

I had a similar problem searched evrywhere couldnt figure it out,, eventualy I took it to the autolec and even he was puzzled,, one of his guys strolled up to check out the action asked a few questions and proceded to change the battery earth terminal to a nice new one, I laughed, couldnt be, the old one looked fine,,,,,I havent had the problem since ,,, but then that could have no parallel with with problem .

BINGO!

That did it for me once .. and I was locked in the vehicle! Swung it side to side like a crazy monkey cause I knew the battery cable had come loose and without that juice my doorlocks would NEVER release, and I would be trapped!! Rocked that 80 feverishly .. until I found myself in a puddle of panicky tears .. hyperventilating I must have passed out .. was a -20 degree nite and when I awoke I guess sheer self preservation reminded me that I was NOT a baboon .. I was a MAN .. a walking, talking, THINKING man ..

So I did what any wiseguy would have done in my shoes ...

I reached over and flipped the MANUAL door lock, and quietly extricated myself.

:o :o :o :o :o

Hooked up the cable tightly and went off into the nite ... vowing to reveal this humiliation to only a scattered few ..

:D

Lol

Oh .. and the reason for my baboon impersonation in the first place was to try to reseat the battery cable on the post. I could visualize it sitting just above the post, and figured if I shook the s***e out of the 80 it might fall down onto it a bit more, increasing the contact area ..

Seemed logical at the moment .. but then my minds clarity was a bit blurred.

Hey, Tricky Mickey Boobiecon finally found Mud :flipoff2:

My bet is batt cables - either loose or corroded.

Or it could be those MT/R's causing bad karma :flipoff2:

it was the badery terminal cleans it

Kear?! Is that you? My old buddy! This is aparty here.

A little less Jaeger. A little more spell check.

Why bother cleaning the battery terminal? Just slap a sticker on it -- no more problems.

oh man, if that is really the solution to all the problems - then I have it all under control! do you have any stickers to donate? but cleaning the cables and the posts does wonders, and it happens just often enough that you check everything else but the terminals ?!

I thought you were selling the thing? :)

Never! Plus, Nobody wants to pay me a dollar a mile. Which is now over $219K! If anything I am itching to buy another one, then another, then another one. Stock options - please vest soon!
