well ya should have given me aheads up i would have been happy to look at it when i was in thibodaux this weekend.

a little further to houma would not have killed the new motor gotta break her in.

I found a 97 LC in Houma with 155K. I'm gun shy, cuz it'll have to be my daily driver. My goal is to go see it in person this week. I flipped open my Overland Journal and there was an article about an expedition ready 97 that did the Alaskan Cruicer Trek. I see Scott driving his every day now, and Landry is my hero storming through town with his. Oh decisions, decisions.

97 is a good year and you'd be really happy with 80's versatility. I'll tell you I will always keep an 80 or 100 for a family wheeler/camper hauler from here on out. Thats is until Obama makes it impossible to own one and then I'll just hide it. I really enjoy it. Set your expectations up front I don't find the gas much worse than the Trailblazer and you're driving a Suburban so you shouldn't see a big difference either in town. HWY is where you'll see the difference. Mike has driven his 80 for years as well and speaking of Mike I talked to him yesterday and his 80 is 4-Sale with the need for something bigger like a suburban or Sequoia. You should shoot him a email to see if you can work something out. His engine was new when he got it and should still have low mileage. 80 all the way :D

 so true sorry bud . Yea I remember your 60 and 80 and you having plenty seat time in them when I had my first 40 back in 96 or around that time frame. I'd sure take those gas prices now.

Mike Theriot? I got two big a$$ top of the line SUV's I can offer him...

You don't have to sell me on the versatility issue. And the oil company pays for my fuel now so that's not a huge issue to me like it was before (knock on wood).

Back in the saddle again

man if the gas prices would have stayed as low as they are now i might have kept the war pig.................i guess key word is might, and i might end up with back when the young man who purchased it enlists when he graduates.

all i know is the last two times i have been tempted to buy anoither 80 when in the market for another toyota i guess i just could not bring myself to do it and that is not b/c of price. the tuck has great attributes and some incredible shortcomings. those become apparent the longer you own one.

i loved the 80, and do miss it in certain ways. they are great trucks and you 80 owners def have the support of the aftermarket.

when i was trail ridin' my 80, the guys at the events would send me on some "duck " missions and when i came back to camp where really amazed at the fact the truck came back first, then without damage.

back then it had the image of an overgrown grocery getter.

plush and rugged. it will take some getting used to. as about as reliable as any vehicle on the road today.

hell just look at any vehicle made in 1997 and just give it the good eye like your doin to the toyota.

it looks dated and the damn thing is fallin apart at the welds.

more than likely does not run well and the only parts you can get for it are mexican reman nafta parts.

the toyota is a no brainer. hell you can still get most rubber for the 40 series from a toyota dealership in new iberia......

just be prepared to PAY for owning a toyota.

mike's truck is very nice.

if iwere to buy a gasser80 that is the one and it is local.

my next venture is a diesel. :hmm:

I need mine tuned like you guys trucks. I had a 93(bone stock) for a few years and now the 96 and I get around 8 in the city and maybe 10 on the hi way. That is with any octane and I drive 65 on the hi way and drive like a grandma in the city.

That being said....Marty if it is in good shape and had front axle rebuilt, coolant changed regularly with Toyota Red(unless the head-gasket has already been changed), and is a good price, GO for it! Like Larry said 96-97 are the easiest to diagnose "check engine light problems". You will see that check engine light all the time. Besides, Obama is going to give us free gas anyway according to the You Tube video Dan just posted.

That would cost me over $130.00 in gas. Just funny after all of the gas/80 gussler conversation.

So Marty, do we get to see any pics of this rig?

My cousin is going look today. Looks nice from the pics, but...

I told him I wanted him under the rig to check the knuckles, seals and especially the transmission. He'll get more in depth pictures too.

Obviously work is slow for him today.

Mike and I have already traded emails and in about 10 minutes I'll open negotiations on the phone.

Glad to hear M. Fed Ex dropped off the M12000 for the 80 yesterday. That SOB is heavy. The Fed Ex man needs to hit the weights he was struggling to hold up his end. Said its 140lbs so I guess I won't try to bench press it into place while trying to start two bolts to hold it in place on the ARB. I'll buy some beer and get some help in fear I'll drop it on my hollywood looking face :hillbilly:
