Almost done plating the bumper, just need to finish the bottom and sides. I might make a few changes to it cause im not sure how much i like it so far. I will be trimming the ends cause I think it sticks out an inch or so too far on each side. The recovery points mount right in front of the frame, and they are welded front and back through the 5/16" plate. The slanted openings directly below the recovery points are going to have high lift jack points built in.

Im also going to bend a small section of 1.5" tubing for a Vision X LED light bar that will mount right above the winch on those 2 small triangles.

Sorry for the crappy pics, ill take a few better ones after work tomorrow,

Rough idea of where the LED light bar will go. Too bad its going to be a long time before I can actually buy the light bar, those things are EXPENSIVE!!!

Nice Matt! The only thing different I might have done is tied the recovery points into the frame channels. But given most if not all your recovery events could be solved with the winch its probably a moot point.

The high end LED products are already changing, for the better, again. So prices will come down somewhat and ultimate performance will improve some...time is your friend on these!

While on subject: I'm basically happy with my LED array (VisionX). However their new Prime technology has provided approximately another 30-50% distance reach which would be nice at the upper limits of my bar's illumination (50-55mph).

The other performance issue none of the LED lighting companies have solved is channelling the extreme vertical wash of light that comes from LED. Its a "Catch 22" issue: In forests and heavy brush its fantastic. But in dusty and even semi-dusty conditions (or snow) the vertical wash of light tends to wear me out.

And don't even think about believing any of the LED mfgs (VisionX, Rigid Industries, etc.) about their supposed LED "fog lights". Way too much vertical wash to be useful in dust/snow/fog. Yeah...lighting salesmen are the new "used car salesmen".

Thanks Dan! I mounted the recovery points on my dads jeep like what you said, and wanted to with the LC, but my design changed a little as I went. The recovery points are placed between the two side mounting plates on the frame mounts, so it should produce a nice even pull on the frame. Ive always tried my best to avoid shock loading anything during a recovery situation (which reminds me of the kinetic recovery rope I always say im going to buy but never have....)

A friend of mine is running the Evo Prime dual row 17" Bar and says its amazing. Dont know if he has the 20* or the 40* (I want ot mount a 40* unit on the bumper.) Its a pricey little bugger, so i wont be able to get that one anytime soon. Like you said though, maybe this time next year the cost will start to drop and I will also have a lot more knowledge on what to buy.

bumper is looking really good matt. i still think you should be going into business for this type of stuff ;p can't wait to see the finished product. which winch are you going with?

Jon

Thanks jon! I have a warn XD9000 that has been sitting inside my house for a while waiting for a bumper. I plan on mounting the solenoid inside the engine bay to keep it out of the elements.

Can't tell too well from the pics, but it does look like it could be a tad bit narrower to me. Other than that, it is looking good.

I had a very skinny bumper on the rover so thats what Ive been use to all these years. I thought it was a bit bulky last night! haha :grinpimp:

Did a little trimming to the ends today after work, and im going to finish the rest of the plate after I get out of class tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

Ray, the winch tray is 5/16", the wing tops and fronts are 3/16", and the bottom of the wings is 1/4" for a little more strength. Im going to add a few gussets inside the wing just to add a bit more strength.

I was going to ask you if you had plenty of gusseting between the front outer faces and the wings; but it sounds like you either do or are going to add them...

That is one of the many things I appreciate on my Slee front bumper: The side wings are very well gusseted and the whole bumper structure is incredibly stiff.

Yeah, I was going to add some gussets to the wings to stiffen them up a bit. Is this how your slee looks, Dan?

Matt I'm a little late chiming in, but that bumper looks great.

Thanks Jereme

I'll post up some final pictures tomorrow before it gets powder coated. The winch and everything is mounted, i just need to figure out how i want to bend the light bar.
