I just got an 80 series TLC and everything was fine until I replaced the leaking thermostat housing. Now after the cruiser sits for a few hours it takes a long time to start. The engine rolls but refuses to start, After about the fifth or sixth time it finally gives in. I really need this fixed I drained my battery twice already, Anyone got any ideas as to what may be causing this.

Spark plugs/Wires?
Fuel Delivery?

I dont understand how the thermostat housing would play a role, but more knowledgable guys should chime in,

I dont think the thermostat housing has anythign to do with it unless you damaged somethign else in the process but there is not really anything in that area.

my 80 was hard to start/would not start, also sometimes had troubles at higher throttle postions. after troubleshooting turned out to be the fuel pump realy.

will check fuel relay and system. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks

tried changing the relay still no resolve. Got a tuneup while i was at it. My mechanic thinks it may be a cold start sensor or something he is not sure though. I dont wanna fork out a bunch of cash on parts I dont need.

Keep searching / better describing and this forum will hopefully keep you from doing so. What year? (sorry if I overlooked it)

Are you keeping the year and country of this vehicle a secret for some reason? With several engines and several dozen countries it's tough to advise you.

Do a search on starting times. Several of the board members have cruisers that takes 4-6 swings (ra, ta, ta, ta, ta) before starting. I don't see how this could drain the battery unless the battery is going out which would be the main reason for the slow starting in any event.

sorry I overlooked posting that. It's a 1992, 4.0 fj80 series the sticker on the door jab says made in japan hope this helps.
